2012 Australian Grand Slam Coaches Conference SAVE THE DATE! 12-14 January 2012. When and where? The conference will be held from 12 -14 January 2012 at Hisense Arena, Melbourne Park. Conference sessions and official functions for the conference will be held on court - Hisense Arena, Eastern Concourse – Hisense Arena, Western Lounge – Hisense Arena, Court 21 (Melbourne Park outdoor court) and AAMI Park as required. Theme The theme for the 2012 event is “Building a bigger, better base” Delegate communication and registrations The conference brochure will be forwarded to Tennis Australia coach members in a mail out the week of 19 September 2011. The combination of the confidence taken from the WA tournament along with the additional training was the catalyst for her results in the event.” KidSport Launched CLUB FUNDING & BUSINESS KidSport will make it possible for Western Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation, no matter their financial circumstances. KidSport will allow eligible youth aged 5-18 years to apply for financial assistance to contribute towards club fees. The fees will go directly to the registered KidSport clubs participating in the project through their participating local government. KidSport is being rolled out throughout Western Australia, including some regional local governments. At this stage KidSport is only available in those local governments who have signed up to be involved in the initiative. Not all local governments may be involved, and it may take others several months to come on board. Criteria What are the eligible criteria? • Applicant must be aged 5-18 years. • Applicant must have a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card. • Applicant's primary place of residence must be in the local government area they are applying to (exceptions may apply). • It is preferred that applicants register with a club that is in their local government area. What else? • Funding will cover the cost of fees to join the nominated sport or recreation club (this may include other related costs as identified by the club.) • Maximum of up to $200 per child. • Applicants can only receive funding once per calendar year. • Fees are only for the nominated registered season. • No retrospective fees will be paid. • No limitation to applications per family as long as criteria are met. • An application can be 'validated' by a recognised referral agent (eg school teachers, doctors, police, social workers, local area coordinators.) Community Volunteers Grant Applications are now open for the Department of Sport and Recreation Community Volunteer Grants. The Community Volunteer Grants provide funding to help recruit, retain or up-skill new and existing volunteers within sport and active recreation clubs. Funding is open until 1 May 2012. Grants are limited to between $1000 and $2000. Who Can Apply? Incorporated not for profit sport and active recreation clubs. What can the grant be used for? Applications must help recruit, retain or up-skill volunteers within your club. Examples may include: • Innovative ideas to recruit new and retain exisiting volunteers to your club. • Provide volunteers within your club access to external learning and development opportunities and courses (e.g. risk management, financial management for treasurer, sponsorship seeking, first aid training, how to be an inclusive club). • Support a volunteer coordinator/manager to establish and deliver a ‘train the trainer’ learning and development program tailored to the needs of the volunteers within that organisation. Smarter than Smoking Scholarships The Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR), in partnership with Healthway, has provided a scholarship scheme for talented regional athletes called the Smarter than Smoking (STS) Country Sport Scholarship Program since 1995.
