digital receivers without built-in digital
video recorder are DVR ready and support
the recording of digital programs on an
external storage medium (USB hard drive).
TechniSat digital televisions and digital receivers with
DVR ready functionality support the recording of
digital programs on an external storage medium (USB
hard drive). Infodigital shows the powerful function
using the example of the HDFV DVB-S receiver.
The HDTV-capable digital televisions and digital receivers from TechniSat
are real multimedia talents: In addition to conventional digital TV and
radio stations, they also bring HDTV to the home screen in the best
quality. With the DVR ready feature, they can also record digital programs to
an external storage medium, and even support time-shifting viewing. They can
be extended any time with a digital video recorder, incredibly easily.
1 Connect USB hard drive
An off -the-shelf USB hard drive (FAT32 format) is suitable as an
external storage medium for the recording of digital programs and
available everywhere at reasonable prices. This is connected to the
digital television or digital receiver via a free USB 2.0 interface. The
connected device is immediately detected as a USB storage medium.

2 Selecting a data medium
First, select the newly connected storage medium
in the main menu of the unit under "Main menu ->
Manage recording media" to use it as a DVR hard
drive. If only one storage medium is connected, this
generally takes place automatically.
3 Checking the hard drive
In general, the hard drive can now be used for the
recording of digital TV and radio programs immediately,
since TechniSat's DVR-ready units support the FAT32
support format, which is used to preformat most
external hard drives at the factory. A test of the writing
and reading speed is still necessary to ensure problemfree
use of the digital video recorder (DVR). You can start
this in the same menu with "Check DVR suitability".
4 Record and play back TV and
radio programs
Once the test is passed, the digital video recorder
(DVR) can be used to record digital programs – even
with HDTV. This is just as easy as with TechniSat sets
with built-in digital video recorders. For example,
shows can be scheduled for recording directly from
the electronic program information service "EPG"
using the red REC button. The recordings are then
located in a preview list in the "Films/DVR" menu of
the navigation (blue multifunction key).
5 Time-shifted television viewing
Time-shifted television permits live television to
be paused just by pressing the "Pause playback
key", and recorded on the digital video recorder.
By pushing the button again, you can simply pick
up the show at the same point where you paused,
while the show continues to be recorded in the
background. The rewind/fast forward buttons also
let you move back and forth in the recording.
