NAME<br />

uname - print name of current UNIX system<br />

SYNOPSIS<br />

uname [ -8nrvma ]<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

Uname prints the current system name of UNIX on the standard<br />

output file. It is mainly useful to determine what system one is<br />

using. The options cause selected information returned by<br />

uname(2) to be printed:<br />

-8 print the system name (default).<br />

-n print the nodename (the nodename may be a name that<br />

the system is known by to a communications network).<br />

-r print the operating system release.<br />

-v print the operating system version.<br />

-m print the machine hardware name.<br />

-a print all the above information.<br />

Arguments not recognized default the command to the -8 option.<br />
