Evaluation/Control: Was the “Spirit Day on the Bayou” event cost effective and did the turnout equal or exceed what was anticipated? Was there positive feedback from increased interaction between faculty and students during “chat rooms” on Blackboard? Did participation in Nexus meetings increase as a result of offering alternative times and days? Was participation by faculty as student organization advisors broadened due to enhanced acknowledgements of their involvement?
ACTION PLAN GOAL 2: Increase retention of first – time, Fall 2003 students by six percentage points. KEY STRATEGY D: Organize a parent/family participatory/support program. Description/Explanation: At the present time there is no organized communication flow with parents/family. The University supports family involvement as a necessary component of the retention plan. In an effort to create a student-centered atmosphere at ULM, we believe a parent/family support system will enhance the student’s ability to be successful while pursuing a degree. Research indicates universities whom embrace the student’s support system tend to report higher retention rates than those who do not.
