Dr. Cofer has been diligent in disseminating his
messages of expectations and hope to the ULM
community. This message was well received at
the recent Browse on the Bayou and was addressed
in his State of the University Message.
During visit three, the consultant will review a process with the retention
committee designed to reach out to students who may consider not returning
to ULM the next semester (Fall 2003). The following procedures are
proposed for advance consideration:
Registrar creates a list of student (by major or advisor) who did not preregister;
Registrar submits the list to advisors;
Advisors assist in contacting non-registered students and getting students to
pre-register for courses;
Advisors send the findings to the Retention Coordinator within a specified
timeframe; and
Coodinate follow-ups with advisors.
A literature review reveals that students who pre-register before they leave
campus are more likely to return to the university. The goal of this process is
to have as many students pre-register as possible before they leave for the
summer break..
