Initiative: Increase student referrals for career counseling Accomplishment: There has been a substantial increase in the number of current and prospective students utilizing the Career counseling services offered by three career interns in the CASS LRC and the Strong Interest Inventory offered by the Counseling Center. Initiative: Encourage faculty and staff support for and student participation in University Student Organizations. Accomplishment: Organization participation has improved. The Mardi Gras Ball created excitement about the possibilities for positive interaction with students. The Student Activities Referendum was approved by the ULM student body during an election on April 22 and 23. Funding from this referendum will support renovations of the Student Union Building, and the Activities of the Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board.
Short Range Initiatives and Accomplishments as Recommendations from Dr. Courtney Stryker, Noel- Levitz Retention Consultant Following Dr. Courtney Stryker’s first visit to the ULM campus on December 2 and 3, 2002, she made the following short range initiative recommendations in her January 7, 2003 report. Short-Term Strategies for Immediate Impact at ULM Although most of the planning for the retention initiative at ULM will be long-term, it is important that students know and see the immediate changes being made. Communication of University Responses to Student Concerns Before the end of the Spring Semester, accomplish the following and publicize widely: Initiative: Appoint a customer service task force to address quality service issues across campus. Accomplishment: Required customer service workshops began in February and will be offered again in late May or early June. Initiative: Implement an internal marketing campaign focusing on enhancing the image of ULM to students, faculty, and staff at the University. Accomplishment: The strong leadership at ULM has created a belief that things are changing and improving at ULM. When external media attempt to promote a negative image, the administrators respond with comments about the exciting things occurring at ULM. The student newspaper, Pow-Wow, has cooperated in publishing articles about student accomplishment, faculty- student engagement, and other positive messages.
