Short Range Initiatives and Accomplishments as
Recommendations from the ULM Retention Committee
On November 11, 2002, the ULM Retention Committee adopted the
following seven retention initiatives which could immediately implemented:
Initiative: Provide Supplemental Instruction for Chemistry
Accomplishment: Chemistry tutoring has been heavily promoted and
student use of this service has increased. As a
result the Chemistry faculty are poised to support
the implementation of the Chemistry Supplemental
Instruction for Fall 2003.
Initiative: Increase Math 113 from 3 credits to 5 credits
Accomplishment: No Action on this Initiative.
Initiative: Require Workshop participation for students on
academic probation
Accomplishment: While participation has not been required, there
has been an increased awareness of the workshops
offered by CASS, the Counseling Center and the
Activity Center. This initiative could be used in
the Early Alert system for Freshmen and other
students.
Initiative: Increase Biology tutoring
Accomplishment: There has not been faculty support or student
participation for this initiative.
Initiative: Stress absence reporting by faculty and instructors
Accomplishment: This initiative has remained at current levels with
some faculty and instructors reporting absences.
