4. Second semester visit – Students are notified either by a telephone
call, letter, or postcard for academic advising. The visit typically
proceeds as follows:
? Academic Advising of class scheduling should take into
consideration the students work schedule and/or outside of
schools responsibilities along with insuring classes scheduled
follow the desired degree plan chosen by the student.
? Students are asked the status of their classes, to discuss their
attendance as well as if they are enjoying their classes.
Students are asked to assign a letter grade to each of their classes.
? The advisor will ask about experiences socially and personally.
? If needed the advisor will: suggest exploring career options using
DISCOVER, for academic help recommend. Ex: Tutoring,
academic workshops. If needed refer for personal issues. Ex:
Counseling centers.
V. Advising Forms
? Intake form- Students are asked to fill out an intake sheet that
will be used for the advisor to better assist the student in
determining a career path and to document services provided
by ULM.
? Summary of Academic Visits- Advisors must record the date
and reason of every student visit on the Summary of
Academic Visits (e.g., 10/09/02- Semester Check- up).
? Check Sheet for Courses Completed and/or Degree Plan-
On this sheet, advisor records the courses student has
completed.
