students, handout material and topics covered in the FRYS 101 class. The CASS
workshops are interactive and cover topics which specifically deal with all aspects of test
taking strategies. Beginning with note taking styles, better ways to study and test anxiety,
CASS workshops provide students with needed academic tools. Another way CASS
approaches this area is with its unique ability to provide one-on-one interaction with its
students. CASS also provides handouts on these topics which can e picked up in the
CASS office an CASS LRC. The FRYS 101 class is taught by the CASS counselors and
selected faculty and staff, and provides a more in-depth coverage on these topics along
with allowing the student to practice these strategies.
This effort is important in providing students with as many viable academic skills to meet
the new challenges college life will present. Most students have not been taught how to
study or take notes. Providing this critical information is not only practical because the
students need it but it also shows the university cares about its students.

The trend in providing such services is a nationwide trend taking on by colleges and
universities alike.

Continue the excellent way in which CASS provides this service and look for new and
innovated ways to improve.
Staff Mentoring Programs:
What are we doing?
CASS uses FRYS 101 class to mentor students who volunteer to work with instructors in
a teaching role as they work with students in the class.
Current Research/Information:
Results show participants thought it was a good idea, and it should last the full year
matched on educational level. The study stated 84% of students would recommend the
mentoring program.
