Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

torture he had suffered. Throughout his detention in <strong>the</strong> NSA, he was kept<br />

blindfolded in an isolated cell.<br />

On 17 June, he was transferred to Dry Dock Detention Centre where he was<br />

kept in a small cell with ano<strong>the</strong>r person. He was denied access to <strong>the</strong> Quran<br />

and a prayer rug for <strong>the</strong> first three days. He was permitted his first family<br />

visit on 19 June and was transferred to Al Qurain Prison on 22 June.<br />

CASE NO. 56<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> Statement: 8 August 2011<br />

Statement: The detainee was driving along a road in his village when<br />

masked men suddenly stopped him in <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> street. They asked<br />

him his name, placed him in a car, blindfolded him and took him to an<br />

unknown location. They <strong>the</strong>n removed his blindfold and beat him viciously<br />

while demanding that he reveal information about o<strong>the</strong>r persons in his<br />

village who were wanted by <strong>the</strong> police. He responded that he did not have<br />

any information about those individuals.<br />

He was subsequently transferred to <strong>the</strong> CID. During <strong>the</strong> first two days <strong>of</strong> his<br />

detention at <strong>the</strong> CID, he was stripped <strong>of</strong> all his clo<strong>the</strong>s, blindfolded,<br />

handcuffed and forced to remain standing. He was repeatedly beaten,<br />

insulted and interrogated for information about people in his village. He was<br />

asked whe<strong>the</strong>r he had taken part in protests in Al Diraz village and he<br />

responded affirmatively. The following day, he was fur<strong>the</strong>r interrogated and<br />

accused <strong>of</strong> cutting <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> tongue <strong>of</strong> an Asian worker. He responded that he<br />

did not understand what he was being told. The interrogators informed him<br />

that he may not understand now, but he would soon. They continued to beat<br />

him viciously and electrocuted him until he admitted to <strong>the</strong> crime. They<br />

asked him who had cooperated with him and he replied that he did not know.<br />

They beat him and dislocated his shoulder. He began to cry because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

pain and <strong>the</strong>n he agreed to confess to <strong>the</strong> accusations made against him. The<br />

detainee did not know <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r persons implicated by his interrogators.<br />

CASE NO. 57<br />

Date <strong>of</strong> statement: 20 August 2011<br />

Statement: On 25 March 2011, commandos, riot police and masked men in<br />

plain clo<strong>the</strong>s broke into <strong>the</strong> witness’ home and ransacked his bedroom.<br />

They broke personal items, including his computer and mobile phone, and<br />

stole BD 200. He was taken a short distance in a car and <strong>the</strong>n beaten by a<br />

large group <strong>of</strong> people. He was subsequently transferred to ano<strong>the</strong>r car and<br />

beaten until he reached <strong>the</strong> CID.<br />

Upon entering <strong>the</strong> CID, he was blindfolded and beaten with various objects.<br />

He was <strong>the</strong>n taken to an interrogation room where he was told to confess to<br />

his crimes. When he did not respond “correctly”, he was beaten with sticks<br />

on his spine and head. They told him, “Confess you donkey; confess you<br />
