Annex B — Summary <strong>of</strong> Torture Allegations<br />

<strong>the</strong> Roundabout. Afterwards he accused <strong>the</strong> detainee <strong>of</strong> incitement. He<br />

made a call from <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice telephone, which he placed on loudspeaker, and<br />

told <strong>the</strong> person on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line, “I have someone good looking,<br />

do you want him?” The person on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r end said, “I am busy now but<br />

will pass by soon.” The detainee interpreted this as an invitation to rape<br />

him. The interrogator <strong>the</strong>n beat <strong>the</strong> detainee viciously for one hour with a<br />

hose on different parts <strong>of</strong> his body, causing bruising. The detainee was<br />

returned to <strong>the</strong> same room where he was forced to remain standing from<br />

11:30 until 16:00 and was not allowed to pray. Subsequently, he was<br />

interrogated again and told to confess but he insisted on his innocence. He<br />

was <strong>the</strong>n beaten continuously for half an hour. He was forced to lie on his<br />

stomach while <strong>the</strong>y beat his feet with a hose that had a plank inside it. Still<br />

he did not confess. After half an hour <strong>of</strong> severe beatings, he was threatened<br />

with sexual assault and electrocution. He was also asked if he had bro<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

or sisters, and when he said yes <strong>the</strong>y threatened to rape <strong>the</strong>m. He was <strong>the</strong>n<br />

sexually molested and forced to repeat a confession from his interrogator.<br />

He was taken to ano<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong>ficial who instructed that his blindfold be<br />

removed. The detainee was forced to sign three confessions, and several<br />

days later he was forced to videotape his confession for live broadcast.<br />

He was subsequently transferred to Al Qurain Prison, which until 9 June was<br />

run by a group <strong>of</strong> masked men in civilian clo<strong>the</strong>s and persons in military<br />

uniform who were <strong>of</strong> Pakistani origin. During that period, <strong>the</strong> detainee was<br />

forced to stand for prolonged periods, he had limited access to a toilet and he<br />

was subjected to routine beatings up to three times per day. On <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong><br />

his court hearing, he was hooded on his way to <strong>the</strong> courtroom.<br />

Statement: Security forces broke into <strong>the</strong> witness’s home at around 02:00<br />

on 23 February 2011. They broke down <strong>the</strong> external door and terrorised his<br />

wife and children. They did not have an arrest warrant. The detainee woke<br />

up and walked to <strong>the</strong> door <strong>of</strong> his bedroom where he was grabbed by security<br />

forces and dragged down <strong>the</strong> stairs. They did not allow him to get dressed.<br />

He later found out that <strong>the</strong>y had searched his home and stolen computers and<br />

three mobile phones. He was blindfolded, handcuffed and placed in a jeep.<br />

There, <strong>the</strong> security forces kicked him all over his body, except his head, and<br />

insulted him. They tore his undershirt and pulled his hair and nipples. This<br />

continued throughout <strong>the</strong> journey and <strong>the</strong>y threatened that if he told anyone<br />

about it <strong>the</strong>y would torture him more severely.<br />

The detainee was taken to <strong>the</strong> MoI interrogation centre where he had a<br />

medical examination. He was subsequently forced to stand for long periods,<br />

sometimes up to 10 hours, and this caused severe pain in his back and legs.<br />

He would be permitted to sit down for a few minutes and <strong>the</strong>n would be<br />

forced to stand again. He was beaten regularly all over his body, sometimes<br />
