When Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris
resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room.
They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members, Cora,
Celia, Ruth and Jessie, to pose nude with them for an ‘Alternative’ calendar,
with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence.
The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes
of press soon descend on the small village of Knapely in the Yorkshire Dales.
the calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test
under the strain of their new-found fame.
We are looking for a strong cast of 14 actors. 10 female. 4 male.
Playing ages for the ladies, 20s to 70s but the majority aged in the 40s to 60s
For the men, two are in their 20s the others 40s and 50s
Most of all we are looking for a group of hard-working people who are
possessed of a sense of humour and team spirit to join us on what will be a
great challenge.
As in both the film and the play ‘Calendar Girls’ there is nudity, and yes, we
will be going ‘all the way’. The scene involving this will be true to the writers
request of ‘Fabulous Concealment’. The audience won’t see anything they
shouldn’t!.
This will take guts to do, but will be well worth the bravery.
