1. Debris and water covers most<br />

of the Sendai <strong>Air</strong>port after an<br />

earthquake and tsunami devastated<br />

Japan on March 11. Days after<br />

the disaster, a joint team of U.S.<br />

<strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> and Marines search and<br />

rescue specialists conducted a<br />

survey of the damaged airport. The<br />

joint team is part of the American<br />

disaster relief forces sent to assist<br />

with Japan’s recovery effort.<br />

2. <strong>Air</strong>men from the 89th Aerial<br />

Port Squadron load pallets onto a<br />

C-17 Globemaster III at Joint Base<br />

Andrews, Md. <strong>Air</strong> transportation<br />

<strong>Air</strong>men from the 89th APS created<br />

14 pallets of technical search and<br />

rescue gear, including inflatable<br />

swift-water rescue boats, generators,<br />

trench rescue and cutting<br />

equipment. The gear is being<br />

transported to more than 80 Fairfax<br />

County Urban Search and Rescue<br />

technicians to provide assistance<br />

in Japan.<br />
