Dr. Stewart Hilliard, the military<br />
working dog logistics chief, said the<br />
litter is one of the best the program<br />
has ever produced, according to<br />
formal 7-month testing conducted<br />
on seven of the puppies about two<br />
weeks after training began. Six of<br />
the seven tested well in both bite<br />
work and detection, while the other<br />
puppy passed in detection.<br />
“What they represent to me is a<br />
beginning, not a product,” Doctor<br />
Hilliard said. “They represent the<br />
possibility of using these dogs to<br />
breed more fine dogs in the future,<br />
rather than just six good dogs for<br />
DOD.<br />
“What that means is we have<br />
produced a pairing of a male and<br />
female dog that has evidently had<br />
a really favorable genetic outcome,”<br />
