Diversity Siemens Wins MAP Award for Corporate Excellence Diversity day at Siemens Pakistan Diversity Day was celebrated at the head office in Siemens Pakistan. Out of 100 female employees, a group of 30 plus engineers, consultants, audit and commercial officers were invited for the inaugural session. Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui MD and CEO attended the event to communicate the importance and seriousness of diversity at Siemens Pakistan. He showed his strong commitment towards a diverse workforce and encouraged female employees to come forward and be the brand ambassadors of Siemens Pakistan as an equal opportunity employer. Director HR Mr. Amin Bandhani in his welcome address explained the reasons behind this diversity initiative and affirmed his commitment towards diversity management in its true spirit. Ms. Wajiha Alam Siddiqi of HR explained the whole concept behind this diversity campaign and assured that this day is just the launching day of an ongoing diversity management drive which shall address concerns of female employees through collaboration of different modes Diversity day at Siemens Pakistan in which the Managing Director and CEO MR. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui took personal interest was highly appreciated by the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) of Siemens AG. In a letter to the management she wrote ""Dear Sohail, Amin Thank you so much for taking the lead to drive diversity in Pakistan. Within the global diversity initiative, we are driving diversity to be a business imperative that must be championed by the CEO of each unit personally, so that everyone understands that it is all about leveraging on the diversity of our workforce to drive our business. The aim of this day was to launch a platform to celebrate and encourage diversity at Siemens Pakistan. The diversity goal: “Sustainable Success through diversity” was also unveiled via a poster. Distinguished guest speakers were also invited including Ms. Karen Allawala, CEO Gulfstone Training & Ms. Sumaira Qamar, project coordinator Women Employment Concerns and Working Conditions in Pakistan (WEC-PK) [Employers’ Federation of Pakistan / International Labour Organization] to mark the launching ceremony of this diversity management initiative at Siemens Pakistan. The audience asked several questions from Ms. Allawala regarding work life balance and tips on how to be a successful women executive. Several presentations on topics such as women at key positions, Women changing the global corporate scene, gender diversity and equal opportunities at Siemens Pakistan kept the audience captivated as these presentations were given by Siemens Pakistan women managers namely Ms. Sadia Kazmi, Ms. Salma Kamal and Ms. Shaista Sualeh respectively. Ms. Salma explained gender diversity in context with women changing the global corporate scene and focus on work and home life balance. Ms. Sadia explained in detail the choices, chances and challenges that women in Pakistan face in this century while Ms. Shaista inspired the audience with her own story as an example to prove gender diversity and equal opportunity at Siemens. In the closing remarks GM HR Mr. M.N Arslan thanked the MD & CEO Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui for taking time out of his busy schedule to help the Human Resources Department in their diversity management drive. He also thanked the guest speakers for their wonderful thoughts and presentation and gave away shields to them as a memoir of their participation. She has completed her MBA in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University (UK) and B.A (Hons.) in Fashion Management from London College of Fashion (UK). Wajiha has diversified professional experience of media, fashion, and human resources having worked in local and foreign markets. She has also taught and delivered lectures at various levels. Wajiha started her professional career in 2004 as a fashion consultant and carried Salma Kamal Ms. Salma Kamal is Manager, Business Development in our Industry Sector. Ms. Salma Kamal has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the NED University and joined the company in 2004 as trainee engineer. In a short span of a few years she has proven her mettle and has become the youngest woman manager of Siemens Pakistan. Ms. Salma has also represented the company at various international Siemens Pakistan. This places huge responsibility on your shoulders to drive the diversity initiative in the company so that we can stand out as a company that has a truly diverse culture based on merit and no other consideration of gender, out a consultancy project at the Fat Face, a UK based Leisure and Sports wear fashion company, where her core task included identification and segmentation of markets for potential customers. In 2005 Wajiha decided to penetrate the entertainment industry with her association with the prestigious national television network the PTV Prime in their office in UK as Marketing & Advertising Coordinator. In the years to follow, she got more involved in the circle of academia in UK and delivered a series of lectures on media, fashion, and human resources as lecturer at the London Premier College from June 2006 to August 2007. In October 2007, Wajiha decided to focus completely on a full-time career in human resources. She started her career as a HR consultant at Parasol Recruitment Limited and obtained valuable conventions and conferences including Business Conference of Industrial Services, at Lisbon, Portugal (November 2007) and in Business Strategy and Portfolio workshop of On- Call Logistics and Maintenance Business Unit at Mumbai, India (March 2008). Ms. Salma takes keen interests in academics as well and is committed to transferring her knowledge and expertise to the graduating engineers of the country and serves as Associate Professor/ External Examiner for Under Graduate Engineering Examinations. She has successfully implemented various projects by overseeing the cast, color, race or language. In 2008 she returned to Pakistan and joined Siemens Pakistan in August of the same year. Wajiha is designated as Human Resource Officer and is currently managing the portfolio of key accounts officer of Energy Sector. Wajiha also coordinates on administrative matters of employees regarding payroll, compensation & benefits related issue, ERF management, deputation, training & development and web based training activities. Considering her varied experience and her exposure to diverse cultures she was nominated as Diversity Coordinator and recently has been nominated as Diversity Ambassador for Siemens Pakistan. successful completion of on-site controlling and monitoring of DHA Co-generation Power Project, the first project of its essence in Pakistan, inaugurated by former President in February 2008. She has also played a key role in the successful completion of design, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of various cement plants automation, control and up-gradation projects using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as the main communication hub. Performance Cash is King Cash is King - 1st Quarter As part of the company campaign to take everyone on board and work together to overcome the present global and local economic crisis the “Cash is King” award was announced. The BU head with the best cash flow was to be crowned in an austere though impressive ceremony. The first award 8 Siemens Ki Dunya | August 2009 ceremony in this connection was held at the end of the second quarter on 23rd April 2009. The winner was Mr. Akbar Hasware of BU HSS Local. Mr. Sohail Wajahat H.Siddiqui speaking on the occasion stressed the importance of positive cash flow. He congratulated Cash is King - 2nd Quarter For the second time in a row BU ET PP&A ( Formerly BU HSS Local) won the Cash is King award as the BU with best cash flow in the quarter ending June 2009. Mr.Akbar Hasware head of the BU was crowned (once more) amidst thunderous applause. The occasion was used as a discussion of best practice example and Mr. Akbar and Mr.Imran Aslam gave a presentation on their strategy to be cash positive for the second quarter in a row. The presentation was than discussed by the participants and it was decided that more best practice sessions should be held to inform each other of ways and means to overcome similar problems and devise strategies. The Managing Director Mr.Sohail Wajahat H.Siddiqui outlined the Mr. Akbar Hasware and said this contest goes on and after the next quarter we will crown another King of cash. Later Mr. Hasware was crowned jointly by the MD and CFO business environment and the opportunities and risks in the coming months. He stressed the need for positive cash flow. The Chief Financial Officer Mr.Gerhard Wilcke speaking on the occasion congratulated the winner. Mr.Hasware was crowned jointly by the MD and CFO Siemens Pakistan Receives ISO Standard Certification 9001- Siemens Pakistan has received certification under new ISO Standard 9001-2008 for the quality management system by German certification body DQS. . This certification has been received by the company for the last seven years without any report of non conformity.. The head of CQPE Mr.Mansoor Iqbal Khan when contacted said that this was a result of team work and strict vigilance and guidance by CQPE department in Pakistan. Siemens Ki Dunya | August 2009 9
