<strong>Siemens</strong> Wins MAP Award for Corporate Excellence<br />
Diversity day at <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong><br />
Diversity Day was celebrated at the head<br />
office in <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>. Out of 100<br />
female employees, a group of 30 plus<br />
engineers, consultants, audit and<br />
commercial officers were invited for the<br />
inaugural session.<br />
Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui MD and CEO<br />
attended the event to communicate the<br />
importance and seriousness of diversity<br />
at <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>. He showed his<br />
strong commitment towards a diverse<br />
workforce and encouraged female<br />
employees to come forward and be the<br />
brand ambassadors of <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong><br />
as an equal opportunity employer.<br />
Director HR Mr. Amin Bandhani in his<br />
welcome address explained the reasons<br />
behind this diversity initiative and<br />
affirmed his commitment towards<br />
diversity management in its true spirit.<br />
Ms. Wajiha Alam Siddiqi of HR explained<br />
the whole concept behind this diversity<br />
campaign and assured that this day is<br />
just the launching day of an ongoing<br />
diversity management drive which shall<br />
address concerns of female employees<br />
through collaboration of different modes<br />
Diversity day at <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> in which the<br />
Managing Director and CEO MR. Sohail Wajahat<br />
Siddiqui took personal interest was highly<br />
appreciated by the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO)<br />
of <strong>Siemens</strong> AG. In a letter to the management<br />
she wrote<br />
""Dear Sohail, Amin<br />
Thank you so much for taking the lead to drive diversity in<br />
<strong>Pakistan</strong>. Within the global diversity initiative, we are driving<br />
diversity to be a business imperative that must be championed<br />
by the CEO of each unit personally, so that everyone understands<br />
that it is all about leveraging on the diversity of our<br />
workforce to drive our business. We want to promote greater<br />
diversity in terms of gender, nationalities, backgrounds, mix of<br />

of thinking. The aim of this day was to<br />
launch a platform to celebrate and<br />
encourage diversity at <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>.<br />
The diversity goal: “Sustainable Success<br />
through diversity” was also unveiled via a<br />
poster. Distinguished guest speakers<br />
were also invited including Ms. Karen<br />
Allawala, CEO Gulfstone Training & Ms.<br />
Sumaira Qamar, project coordinator<br />
Women Employment Concerns and<br />
Working Conditions in <strong>Pakistan</strong> (WEC-PK)<br />
[Employers’ Federation of <strong>Pakistan</strong> /<br />
International Labour Organization] to<br />
mark the launching ceremony of this<br />
diversity management initiative at<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>. The audience asked<br />
several questions from Ms. Allawala<br />
regarding work life balance and tips on<br />
how to be a successful women executive.<br />
Several presentations on topics such as<br />
women at key positions, Women<br />
changing the global corporate scene,<br />
gender diversity and equal opportunities<br />
at <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> kept the audience<br />
captivated as these presentations were<br />
given by <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> women<br />
managers namely Ms. Sadia Kazmi, Ms.<br />
Salma Kamal and Ms. Shaista Sualeh<br />
respectively.<br />
Ms. Salma explained gender diversity in<br />
context with women changing the global<br />
corporate scene and focus on work and<br />
home life balance. Ms. Sadia explained in<br />
detail the choices, chances and<br />
challenges that women in <strong>Pakistan</strong> face<br />
in this century while Ms. Shaista inspired<br />
the audience with her own story as an<br />
example to prove gender diversity and<br />
equal opportunity at <strong>Siemens</strong>.<br />
In the closing remarks GM HR Mr. M.N<br />
Arslan thanked the MD & CEO Mr. Sohail<br />
Wajahat Siddiqui for taking time out of<br />
his busy schedule to help the Human<br />
Resources Department in their diversity<br />
management drive. He also thanked the<br />
guest speakers for their wonderful<br />
thoughts and presentation and gave<br />
away shields to them as a memoir of<br />
their participation.<br />
At <strong>Siemens</strong> internationally 430,000<br />
employees represent 140 nationalities.<br />
Diversity management initiatives like<br />
these will boost the confidence and<br />
morale of our diverse workforce and help<br />
us make diversity our competitive edge!<br />
experience, expertise, etc. on all organizational levels, as this<br />
helps us to be more innovative and competitive. Recently, I<br />
was delighted to hear from one new colleague in CF A Germany<br />
who joined us from PWC, that she chose <strong>Siemens</strong> also because<br />
she came to know of our diversity drive.<br />

2008. She has<br />
completed her MBA<br />
in Human Resource<br />
Management from<br />
Middlesex University<br />
(UK) and B.A (Hons.) in Fashion Management<br />
from London College of Fashion<br />
(UK).<br />
Wajiha has diversified professional<br />
experience of media, fashion, and<br />
human resources having worked in local<br />
and foreign markets. She has also taught<br />
and delivered lectures at various levels.<br />
Wajiha started her professional career in<br />
2004 as a fashion consultant and carried<br />

Ms. Salma Kamal is Manager, Business<br />
Development in our<br />
Industry Sector. Ms.<br />
Salma Kamal has a<br />
Masters in Electrical<br />
Engineering from<br />
the NED University<br />
and joined the<br />
company in 2004 as<br />
trainee engineer. In<br />
a short span of a few years she has<br />
proven her mettle and has become the<br />
youngest woman manager of <strong>Siemens</strong><br />
<strong>Pakistan</strong>.<br />
Ms. Salma has also represented the<br />
company at various international<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>. This places huge<br />
responsibility on your shoulders to<br />
drive the diversity initiative in the<br />
company so that we can stand out<br />
as a company that has a truly<br />
diverse culture based on merit and<br />
no other consideration of gender,<br />
out a consultancy project at the Fat Face,<br />
a UK based Leisure and Sports wear<br />
fashion company, where her core task<br />
included identification and segmentation<br />
of markets for potential customers. In<br />
2005 Wajiha decided to penetrate the<br />
entertainment industry with her association<br />
with the prestigious national<br />
television network the PTV Prime in their<br />
office in UK as Marketing & Advertising<br />
Coordinator.<br />
In the years to follow, she got more<br />
involved in the circle of academia in UK<br />
and delivered a series of lectures on<br />
media, fashion, and human resources as<br />
lecturer at the London Premier College<br />
from June 2006 to August 2007. In<br />
October 2007, Wajiha decided to focus<br />
completely on a full-time career in<br />
human resources. She started her career<br />
as a HR consultant at Parasol Recruitment<br />
Limited and obtained valuable<br />
conventions and conferences including<br />
Business Conference of Industrial<br />
Services, at Lisbon, Portugal (November<br />
2007) and in Business Strategy and<br />
Portfolio workshop of On- Call Logistics<br />
and Maintenance Business Unit at<br />
Mumbai, India (March 2008).<br />
Ms. Salma takes keen interests in<br />
academics as well and is committed to<br />
transferring her knowledge and expertise<br />
to the graduating engineers of the<br />
country and serves as Associate<br />
Professor/ External Examiner for Under<br />
Graduate Engineering Examinations.<br />
She has successfully implemented<br />
various projects by overseeing the<br />
cast, color, race or language. I wish<br />
you every success with your<br />
endeavors and assure you that the<br />
management is committed to the<br />
concept of diversity”<br />

In 2008 she returned to <strong>Pakistan</strong> and<br />
joined <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong> in August of the<br />
same year. Wajiha is designated as<br />
Human Resource Officer and is currently<br />
managing the portfolio of key accounts<br />
officer of Energy Sector. Wajiha also<br />
coordinates on administrative matters of<br />
employees regarding payroll, compensation<br />
& benefits related issue, ERF<br />
management, deputation, training &<br />
development and web based training<br />
activities.<br />
Considering her varied experience and<br />
her exposure to diverse cultures she was<br />
nominated as Diversity Coordinator and<br />
recently has been nominated as Diversity<br />
Ambassador for <strong>Siemens</strong> <strong>Pakistan</strong>.<br />
successful completion of on-site controlling<br />
and monitoring of DHA<br />
Co-generation Power Project, the first<br />
project of its essence in <strong>Pakistan</strong>,<br />
inaugurated by former President in<br />
February 2008.<br />
She has also played a key role in the<br />
successful completion of design,<br />
engineering, installation, testing and<br />
commissioning of various cement plants<br />
automation, control and up-gradation<br />
projects using Programmable Logic<br />
Controller (PLC) as the main communication<br />
hub. Ms. Salma is also a member of<br />
<strong>Pakistan</strong> Engineering Council.<br />
