<strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt Energy<br />
Saving Day<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> Wins MAP Award for Corporate Excellence<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt has launched an Internal<br />
Energy Saving Campaign carrying the<br />
slogan: "Lead the Change… Save<br />
Energy".<br />
The objective of this campaign was: to<br />
create awareness among <strong>Siemens</strong><br />
employees about the need to save<br />
energy, to reduce energy consumption<br />
and the electricity bill by 10%, raise<br />
awareness about <strong>Siemens</strong> Environmental<br />
Portfolio, to build a positive corporate<br />
image towards our customers and<br />
to the public in general, and finally to<br />
become a Green Building.<br />
The campaign was launched with an<br />
“Energy Saving Day” on Thursday June<br />
18th, 2009 within <strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt<br />
premises and in the presence of<br />
Mr. Mohamed El-Mahdi − Chairman &<br />
Managing Director − who presented a<br />
speech at the staff cafeteria to encourage<br />
the employees about the importance<br />
of Energy Saving and talked about<br />

the huge <strong>Siemens</strong> Environmental<br />
Portfolio.<br />
“Energy Saving Ambassadors“ − from<br />
across different business units and<br />
corporates − have participated in<br />
organizing as well as preparing and<br />
arranging the event. On the Energy<br />
Saving Day, the employees were greeted<br />
at the entrance with chocolate bars<br />
carrying the campaign slogan and they<br />
came to work wearing the campaign<br />
T-Shirts.<br />
They showed their cooperation and<br />
support for the campaign, as they used<br />
the stairs instead of the elevators and<br />
switched off the unused lights all over<br />
the building to save energy.<br />
Posters and flyers were displayed all<br />
over the building carrying several<br />
messages on how to save energy. In<br />
addition, stickers for closing the doors<br />
and switching off the lights, computers,<br />
printers, .. etc. carried the messages:<br />
“Close the Door” and “Switch Me Off”.<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> believes that the best way to<br />
ensure that our planet stays green isn't<br />
only by recycling and conserving<br />
energy, but also by teaching our<br />
children to do the same. With this<br />
concept, <strong>Siemens</strong> distributed to its<br />
employees activity booklets for their<br />
kids on energy and energy saving.<br />
Moreover, <strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt has dedicated<br />
a section on its Energy Saving page on<br />
the Intranet under the name “Junior<br />
Energy Savers” that includes many<br />
activity sheets (ready for downloading)<br />
that can assist employees in teaching<br />
their children about energy saving in a<br />
fun and interactive way.<br />
Green balloons and green plants were<br />
decorating the cafeteria to strengthen<br />
the message of green environment and<br />
green building. In addition, an energy<br />
saving cartoon (movie) was played on<br />
the LCD screen in the cafeteria.<br />
Energy Saving Ambassadors interviewed<br />
employees and asked questions about<br />
energy and energy saving.<br />
By the end of the day, Mr. El-Mahdi<br />
announced the winners of the energy<br />
saving quiz and handed the prizes in a<br />
friendly atmosphere filled with an<br />
interactive team spirit. The employees<br />
were gathered for group photos at the<br />
reception area.<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt I IA/DT wins the<br />
complete electrical and automation<br />
packages for “Nile Sugar”.<br />
“Nile Sugar”, a subsidiary of “Orascom”,<br />
is the first fully private beet sugar<br />
company in Egypt. Its production<br />
capacity is 125000 tons/year in the<br />
present phase and is expandable up to<br />
250000 tons/year. The project is<br />
intended to produce high quality white<br />
sugar, which is mainly for export. The<br />
first package won was the automation<br />
and instrumentation after a fierce<br />
competition from several well-known<br />
manufacturers. The project was acquired<br />
on technical basis due to the reputable<br />
experience that <strong>Siemens</strong> possesses in<br />
the Sugar industry as well as the<br />
availability of a local commissioning and<br />
after sales service setup. <strong>Siemens</strong> S.A.E.<br />
was a consortium partner with <strong>Siemens</strong><br />
AG covering the local commissioning. In<br />
April 2009, <strong>Siemens</strong> S.A.E. was awarded<br />
the contracts for the supply of Sinamics<br />
Drives and Motor Control Centers<br />
(MCC’s). The MCC’s are executed<br />
through <strong>Siemens</strong> local Sivacon partner<br />
“EMAS”. “Nile Sugar” will start commissioning<br />
in October 2009 and the<br />
production is planned in March 2010.<br />
The project stands as a mile stone not<br />
only for the increase in local added value<br />
in Sugar projects, but also due to the<br />
collaboration between the head office<br />
and the local regional companies.<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt is moving to “SPIRI-<br />
DON” - “SAP”<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> Egypt is currently preparing to<br />
move to “SPIRIDON” – “SAP”. During a<br />
preparation and follow up meeting of<br />
SPIRIDON - SAP implementation, Mr.<br />
El-Mahdi − Chairman & Managing<br />
Director − stated that there are two<br />
major factors “manpower and tools”,<br />
which lead to the success of the<br />
business in any organization. According<br />
to Mr. El-Mahdi: “<strong>Siemens</strong> has excellent<br />
employees and we need to improve our<br />
tools. For that reason, we decided to<br />
move our ERP system from “Globe” to<br />
“SAP”, which is the world and the<br />
<strong>Siemens</strong> standard. Moving to “SAP” is<br />
not only a challenge, but is also going to<br />
mark a new era for our organization”.<br />
Both our employees and this tool will<br />
enable us to drive the business faster<br />
and more efficient. With SPIRIDON, we<br />
have to change; we have to adjust our<br />
processes to get the best benefit out of<br />
it for <strong>Siemens</strong>.<br />
Why moving to “SPIRIDON” – “SAP”?<br />
� For the past few years, <strong>Siemens</strong> S.A.E.<br />
had exceeded the “Globe” capabilities<br />
(average usage at globe = 15 emp.<br />
/country).<br />
� The ability to meet new business<br />
requirements.<br />
� Aligning with the countries from the<br />
Middle East Cluster.<br />
� Efficiency in consolidating reports.<br />
