Compliance Roadshow Chief Compliance Officer of Siemens AG Dr. Andreas Pohlmann and Compliance Coordinator of Asia Pacific region Mr. Frank Schmidt visited Siemens Pakistan on February 19, 2009 to conduct Compliance road show with senior management, heads of business units and corporate departments, where they spoke of Siemens achievements as well as challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Siemens. In particular Siemens Pakistan compliance performance and achievements in 2007-08 were highly appreciated. 38 Siemens Ki Dunya | August2009 Highlights from the roadshow are as follows: � A painful chapter is now closed and a resolution is reached with German and US authorities last year; which is considered to be significant achievement of compliance program. � Authorities have appointed Mr. Theo Wagel (Ex German Finance Minister) as compliance monitor to oversee compliance program and activities independently. Compliance program has been successfully implemented globally and strengthened compliance organization plays a vital role to avoid systematic deficiencies, failures and misconducts. � Siemens has a best in class compliance program and on this basis has started to fight corruption with “Collective Action”. � Siemens is now an official member of the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI) of the World Economic Forum (WEF). PACI brings together over 140 major companies from around the world to support the fight against supplier-side corruption in the private sector through joint activities. � It is critical that both - leadership and employees - move from a rules based culture to value based approach towards compliance. Rules and regulations have their own importance but developing a culture of highest values and ethics is a key to success. Simplifying rules and regulations is one of the most important requests that we were able to glean from the results of the compliance perception survey. New gifts and hospitality guidelines is first step towards it. Chief Compliance Officer and Compliance Global Coordinator also visited factory premises of Siemens Pakistan accompanied by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sohail Wajahat H. Siddiqui. Sounding Board meeting in Beijing China RCO Pakistan, Mr Naveed Iqbal Ansari, has been made LoA and BPC’s Sounding Board member by Corporate Compliance Office. He represented Middle East, West Asia, India, Eastern Mediterranean Regions / Clusters in Sounding Board’s meeting in Beijing, China in April 2009. Sounding board’s objectives include evaluation, efficient approval mechanism and implementation of change requests for both LoA and BPC tool and its global rollout thereafter. Compliance Helpdesk Update A Visit to Siemens – Japan Supporting the Global Compliance Organization Mr. Syed Ali Mohsin, Regional Compliance Office – Pakistan, visited Siemens - Japan in March 2009 to support compliance activities and training of new compliance colleagues. In this assignment he mentored the colleagues mainly on areas relating to: � Business Partner compliance due diligence tool � Limits of Authority tool � Anti-corruption Kit and related improvements � Annex 14 Self Assessment for Cat -1 and Cat -2 companies � Gifts and hospitalities � Offence reporting � Compliance reporting and review templates to Siemens AG “It was a true learning experience working in an entirely different culture and environment. Dedication and professional approach of work demonstrated by Japanese colleagues is appreciable and perceived to be a benchmark that can be followed” says Syed Ali Mohsin. Visit was highly appreciated and considered to be a success towards Global compliance organization by Compliance Global Coordinator – Asia Pacific region. Companies face threats to these assets everyday in the form of computer viruses, network attacks, fraud, industrial espionage, and even natural disasters. Protecting the safety, confidentiality, integrity and availability of these assets is essential to maintaining profitability, compliance, public image and a competitive edge. Your Local IS Rules The protection of sensitive information is important and all employees are required to give it due importance. By protecting yourself and the systems entrusted to you, you are protecting your co-workers, Siemens network and data and, ultimately, the customers who are depending on you. With the increasing volume and complexity of cyber security threats, we must be aware of how to protect ourselves and the information in our care. There might be several situations in which we put our knowledge at risk. It is essential to be aware of these risks and to avoid them as far as possible. Dangerous Situation One of the fastest ways to compromise a system is to simply walk up to an unattended workstation and access the system. E-mail access, confidential records and personal files can be easily compromised. Users should remain cautious and must lock their workstations or shut down completely to avoid misuse of their systems. Email Caution E-mail messaging is a wonderful tool but it can be used in a number of ways. Phishing, for example, is a fraudulent attempt made through E-mail, to steal your personal information. Employees must ignore such emails – otherwise they will lose vital information stored on their hard disks. Employees using Corina Remote Access Solution, or whose PCs are not linked to the Corporate Intranet have to take added precaution. Computer viruses – What can you do? Your system can be exposed to spyware, viruses or a Trojan horse sometimes just by clicking on a link and visiting a malicious site. Our department works to ensure that Siemens’ virus protection programs are up-to-date. Every two to three days the entire intranet automatically updates itself with virus protection applications.
