Secretarial Training Session 2009
Secretarial training session 2009 was held at HO conducted
by Mr. Nadeem Akhtar of Kaizen Forum and Mr. Haris Lodhi.
Mr. Nadeem Akhtar, an IBA faculty member, gave a lecture on
Time Management & Priority Settings while Mr. Lodhi made a
Increasing Productivity:
Avoid Distractions
Scenario & Solution
Head Office Karachi
The phone never stops ringing, the colleagues never
stops interrupting or visiting your desk. If this is the
workplace environment, then we may have a
problem with distractions. Too many distractions
can lead to a loss of productivity and an, increasing
sense of frustration.
Increasing productivity in work can be easy if one
learns to ORGANIZE, PRIORITIZE and FOCUS.
Few ways to cut short distractions are:
1. List down and organize all your tasks.
2. Prioritize your work load.
3. Be focused on completing one task at a time.
OR
In case of a situation where multitasking is desired, keep focused on
priority task first till it is released for further execution from your
end.
Advantage
If you get your job done well and on time and within budget you
may be asked or called on to become involved with new assignments
or projects. This will provide you with an opportunity to
extend skills and most probably be consideration for promotion.
Danger
If you are not productive, you could be overlooked.
Conclusion
Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment
to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.
Our Own SPL
Well folks, we have our own version of
the IPL. Yes! a
SPL and this is
certainly more
innovative than
the IPL. This
game is for the
fast and furious
only. Limited
overs match
that is so
limited that
once you are on
the crease you start firing from the
word go because you do not have 50 or
even 20 overs. You have just 10 overs
and by the time you are through there
is no strategy session required because
the game is over as far as your side is
concerned. This idea was conceived
and successfully executed by me and I
would like to share with you how it all
happened.
I joined Siemens last year. As a sports
enthusiast, I discovered Siemens
employees were not much into sports
because of the nature of their work and
tight working schedule. I hold the
opinion that one of the reasons for
injecting young blood into any organization
is to reinvigorate the competitive
spirit and provide a spurt of activity
and energy. Therefore, through
personal initiative, I took on the
responsibility of organizing a cricket
team and a full season of matches with
other organizations in the region. My
aim was two-fold. Firstly, introducing a
sport like cricket would not only bring
people from different BUs on one
platform but also foster team work,
social networking and cohesion.
Secondly, it would provide us with the
opportunity to reach out and network
with people working in the corporate
sector. Such relationships can pave the
way for personal as well as professional
cooperation, understanding and
benefit.
The formula I applied was simple. I
wanted to ensure that our activity
would prove entertaining and time
efficient. Therefore, instead of having
50 over matches which presented the
obvious issue of time commitment, I
decided to have 10 over matches every
Saturday. Emails were circulated, a trial
match was held and a team roster was
formed. The cricket team now plays
weekly cricket matches with organizations
such as Packages Pvt. Ltd., UBL,
Standard Chartered Bank, Shell Pvt. Ltd.
etc. Since inception, word of our
weekly meets has become increasingly
popular within and outside Siemens
and we now have more teams willing
to compete against us. Our future plans
include formulation of a local cricket
league and hopefully with time we will
achieve that target also. What about
the long term? Can’t afford Cheer
Leaders so we will keep it to basic
cricket and just enjoy an evening out
with friends from within the company
and outside.
A seminar on “Business Ethics and
organized by Bahria University, Karachi
tional companies participated in the
seminar. From Siemens Mr. Zia Ul Islam
Zuberi Director
Corporate
Communication
presented
the now well
known
Siemens
documentary “
Light for Life”
based on the
Siemens
project for
earthquake affected people of Azad
Kashmir. This documentary is about
the first phase where 40 houses in
village Sharda Maidan, the rural health
centre and mother and child centre
were provided solar power. In the
second phase 150 houses in village
Butnara were provided the same
facility. In addition Mr.Zuberi also
highlighted the high ethical standards
pursued by Siemens in its dealings and
the strict adherence to compliance as
company policy.
The documentary and the efforts of
Siemens in the field of CSR and
compliance were greatly appreciated
by the large number of students and
faculty present on the occasion.
A question answer session followed
and discussion was held on a number
of topics relating to ethics and CSR.
