Real-time 3D Ultrasound in Just a Heartbeat
Siemens has developed the first ultrasound system in the
world that can generate three-dimensional images of the heart
in real time during one single beat.
26 Siemens Ki Dunya | August 2009
Such technology can set a new standard in
echocardiographic imaging that will
improve patient care. Doctors can analyze
results and begin treatment more quickly
with the new system. The first systems
have been delivered recently.
The 3D ultrasound unit is equipped with
new transducer technology that features
cooling of the transducer, an unprecedented
development that allows it to
operate at a higher performance level and
to process information much more rapidly.
The electronic engineering was
co-developed by researchers from
Corporate Technology. This, in turn, makes
it possible for the first time to record a
complete image within a heartbeat. The new transducer is also
smaller and lighter than conventional units.
Siemens Analyzer is a Strong Partner in the Lab
Siemens has developed a laboratory system for diagnostic
tests that combines multiple methods of analysis, which
dramatically accelerates work flows. In one hour the system
can analyze 200 samples and reliably determine 1,500
diagnostic values.
The multifunctional DIMENSION VISTA system can thus be
used to conduct nearly all of a hospital’s laboratory tests.
In medical labs, time is of the essence. During peak periods,
hundreds of blood or urine samples can arrive hourly at the
laboratory of a large hospital. Each sample is tested to
determine an average of almost ten different values, which
could indicate a wide variety of illnesses.
As a rule, a medical lab contains various pieces of equipment,
and each is used to analyze only a small number of parameters.
The multifunctional DIMENSION VISTA analyzer
developed by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, by contrast,
combines four laboratory analysis techniques in one instrument.
It can carry out 97 percent of the lab tests required in
routine and emergency hospital situations, and its current
version can simultaneously evaluate about 105 different
parameters.
PET Scan of the Entire Body in Five Minutes
Siemens has introduced an imaging
device that combines the functions of
its most advanced computed tomograph
(CT) with a high-resolution PET
(positron emission tomography) system.
The new Biograph mCT thus combines
all the capabilities of molecular imaging
and radiology in a single piece of
equipment.
It is the only system that offers PET
images with a resolution of two
millimeters and image contrast four
times better than conventional PET
imaging*. Now it’s possible to conduct a
PET examination in only five minutes.
The CT’s X-ray source rotates around the
patient three times a second, and its
128-slice imaging technology makes
possible a resolution of 0.33 millimeter.
Worlds First Dual Source CT Scanner – SOMATOM Definition
Today, CT scans have become a rapid, accurate, and common
clinical diagnostic tool for emergency situations and cardiac
studies. Recent advances in multi-detector-row computed
tomography (CT) technology have continuously improved the
quality of non-invasive diagnostic imaging. Various studies
have demonstrated a high quality CT images for the diagnosis.
Studies have been published assessing the diagnostic performance
of CT coronary angiography with different generations
of scanners.
At Siemens Healthcare being one step ahead means not only
having the most
innovative CT
scanner but also
to prove clinical
relevance The
recently
introduced
SIEMENS Dual-
Source CT (DSCT)
scanner –
SOMATOM
Definition is
characterized by
two x-ray tubes and two corresponding detectors.
The new DSCT scanner system offers unprecedented image
quality and detail at lowest patient exposure while ensuring
substantially
increased
diagnostic speed
and confidence at
highest temporal
resolution,
making it faster
than Any Beating
Heart. DSCT offers
a paradigm shift
in imaging
diagnostics for
improved image quality and clinical capabilities – easier, faster,
and better diagnoses.
From emergency to non-emergency cases and from bariatric
to pediatric
patients, the
DSCT scanner
can handle
them with as
low as reasonably
achievable
X-ray and
contrast dose.
Industry’s
highest routine
isotropic
resolution in
combination with the fastest sub-millimeter volume coverage
of gives unmatched diagnostic images with DSCT.
More than 400 DSCTs are in clinical use worldwide, not only
for daily clinical routines but also for cutting edge research,
making it the preferred solution for both general and cardiac
imaging.
In Pakistan, leading medical and cardiac institutions have
shown their confidence on the World’s first DSCT hence
providing state
of the art CT
diagnostic
facility to their
patients. The
systems are
installed at
