�� Expedit —— A trendy, but nevertheless
very easy going, restaurant that
serves dishes from the northern Italian
region of Liguria. Its interior resembles
a canteen or a store with an open
kitchen and very simple furniture. It is
famous for its pasta fresca and a pleasant
selection of hams and wines. Those
who can’t get enough of Ligurian specialities
should stop in at Expedit’s alimentary
shop just next to the restaurant.
Also nice for a quick coffee break. Main
dishes start at € 8.

�� Kent —— A classic in the area of the
Brunnenmarkt in Vienna’s 16th district.
This market zone is dominated by the
vibrant flair of a kind of Little Istanbul
because of its large Turkish population,
but meanwhile it has also become a
hotspot for urban bohemians, especially
on Saturday morning. The restaurant
serves traditional Turkish food adapted
to local tastes. It’s huge, but somehow
always crowed, with a pleasant garden.
A good opportunity to start or finish a
night out on the Gürtel with its many
bars, like rhiz or Chelsea. Main dishes

�� Strandgasthaus Birner —— At the
Birner, one could get the feeling that
Vienna is by the sea. Here, the river
Danube shows itself in its full dignity,
viewed at best from one of the many
places in the Strandgasthaus Birner garden.
This traditional, down to earth
restaurant specializes in river fish and
classic Austrian dishes. In summer, the
BBQs are very popular. Main dishes start

it’s near the national library in the
heart of Vienna’s Ringstraße doesn’t
mean that you can’t find a place to eat
for a fair price. The canteen of the library
is open to everybody, and the food
is way above average. Wait in line at the
counter and chose between two daily
menus. You’ll get things like marbles,
little cubes or plastic fruits handed out
as vouchers for your meal. Menus start
at € 5.
