Both had lived in Calgary for
many years, where they met,
married and started a family.
Brian grew up in the Prairies
farming, Debbie was raised and
schooled in Victoria. Married for
10 years, seeing that the pace was
only getting faster in the city, they
decided to move the family to the
Island. Debbie’s dad had bought
a log cabin on Shawnigan Lake in
1966, where the family spent many
summers, weekends and holidays.
This is where the love for country
life originated.
Debbie worked with Mary Kay
Cosmetics for 15 years in Calgary,
loved it, and loved working with
people, however, once on the
Island it was time for a change. Her
youngest son Brandon, at 4 years
old was constantly sick, finally a
year he later was diagnosed with
Asthma, after many trips to the
hospital and many prescriptions. In
that time Debbie could not work, as
her son was home sick 2 to 3 days
per week. Having to partially home
school him and take him to many
appoinments for testing, doctors,
dietitians, etc.Not understanding
why or what was triggering him,
she was determined to get to the
bottom of his health problems. Her
other son had severe allergies and
her husband owned an Autobody
Shop, so basically a toxic family!
This is why she studied health
and well being using supplements,
natural herbal products, and
energy work.
Reiki Wellness
7 Years in the Cowichan Valley – Making a Difference
Debbie Shkuratoff and husband Brian had settled in the Valley in 1991 to
live a peaceful lifestyle and raise their boys.
Cathy Simons CNC, introduced
her to healthy alternatives, Reiki
and many other gifted people along
the way.
The next few years took on a life
of it’s own. Taking Reiki classes,
other energy and health classes, and
meeting many gifted teachers. Debbie
has taken five different styles of Reiki
– Usui, Karuna, Komyo, Secheim,
Tibetian. She has completed the
Reiki Master level in each style and
has tudied with William Lee Rand
of The Internationl Reiki Centre,
Yukatan Sensei from Japan. Took
a workshop with Hawayo Takata’s
grandaughter, Phyllis Lei Furumoto,
the Grandmaster of the Reiki
Alliance. All authentic teachers.
While studying Reiki, Debbie opened
her home for classes and treatments.
Then decided to open Reiki Wellness
at Valleyview Centre in 2004, offering
Reiki sessions, EMF Balancing
Technique sessions ( Advanced
Practitioner I-IV ) and Reiki classes,
teaching all levels. Using the energy
work for balancing the mind, body,
soul and spirit, she realized there
was the physical piece missing, so
in 2005 she took training for the
Detoxifying Foot Spas, brought in
the Infrared Therapies, which are all
very important in maintaining good
health.
Reiki Wellness has added nutritional
suppliments, and is using the Zyto
Compass Bio Feedback Assessment
System. Debbie continues her
Nutritional studies and Health classes
with Lorene Benoit and Associates.
Lorene is a Master Herbalist of
thirty years. Soon other practitioners
were brought in, offering therapies
such as Craniosacral, Ortho-
Bionomy, Reflexology, and various
styles of massage for relaxation
and pampering.
Two years ago, Kangen Water, a
Japanese Technology that is amazing
was brought to the Wellness Centre.
Good, clean ionized water is needed
for our bodies, since we are 80% water.
