the South Cowichan
Chamber of Commerce Culinary
Treasure Hunt is not like just
any other day of swilling ale
and chasing wenches. This will
be a memory building sensory
cornucopia of fun and frivolity.
Only one hundred registered
Hunters will receive a treasure
map leading to a variety of
different farms, wineries,
restaurants and food producers
where they can visit with the
owners, sample their wares,
gather their precious nuggets
and whatever other bounty
they choose.
The day will begin at Mill
Bay Centre where registered
hunters will pick up their
basket and map and head off
on a culinary adventure in
the uncharted foodie Mecca
of South Cowichan. Find
those hidden culinary treasure
samples, gather information
on locally grown and produced
foods, hold on to that valuable
map and use it to stock your
pantries with newly discovered
local delights.

The day will culminate at
Cobble Hill Fair Grounds
where the Shawnigan Cobble
Hill Farmers Institute and
Agricultural Society will be
holding the Culinary Treasure
Hunters Picnic and BBQ.
There will be a draw from the
one hundred tickets for great
prizes such as a Freezer of
Local Food, a BBQ, dinners,
day spa treatments and lots
more. This event will be a
celebration of the agricultural
and culinary community and
an opportunity for Hunters to
share their stories. It will be
open to the public for a fee at
the gate.
This is the first annual event
to raise funds for a new Visitor
Centre in South Cowichan so
mateys, sound the horn from
the hill top to call all culinary
treasure hunters to their…
steeds…ships…oh whatever
mode of transportation you
like, and join in the fun.
These tickets will be hot so
get yours fast!

Let’s Celebrate Your Art!
The Cowichan Valley Arts
Council (CVAC) presents its
41st annual Cowichan Valley
Fine Arts Show - one of the
Vancouver Island’s largest nonjuried
art exhibitions and sale.
This year’s edition runs from
April 6 – 10 and will be held
in the Quw’utsun’ Cultural
and Conference Centre’s main
Comeakin House and adjacent
Riverwalk Café in Duncan.
CVAC is proud to provide this
great opportunity for all local
artists and artisans to showcase
their work as a start to BC’s Arts
and Culture Week celebrations.
This year’s Cowichan Valley
Fine Arts Show has several
new components including
children’s activities, live music
performers, an expanded Gift
Shop area and a pre-show arts
fundraiser, playfully titled
The Cowichan Catch – A Lively
Auction. Hosted by the Valley’s
Community Futures
Cowichan invests $20
million in Cowichan
businesses. Over the last 25
years Community Futures
Cowichan has supported over
700 businesses, thus creating
or maintaining over 20,000
jobs. This huge milestone is in
the same year Prime Minister
Stephen Harper declared the
‘Year of the Entrepreneur’ and
also the 25th anniversary of the
Community Futures program
in over 300 locations across
Canada.
In announcing 2011 as the Year
of the Entrepreneur, Stephen
Harper said: “I encourage
Canadians to participate in
activities taking place this year
to support local entrepreneurs
and to thank them for
contributing to the quality
of life we all enjoy.” This fits
directly into the mandate of
Community Futures, where we
aim to support and encourage
own Bill Levity, this “liveauction”
style event will benefit
CVAC’s expanding role in
providing community-based arts
information and resources. Art
lovers, supporters and patrons
will have a great opportunity to
bid on local art and other items
in a lively atmosphere that is
sure to entertain.
Everyone is invited to attend the
Gala Opening on April 6 from
7:00-9:00pm. Meet and mingle
with the artists while enjoying
light refreshments.
