An arctic-alpine species restricted to calcium-free siliceous soils<br />
and rock screes. Absent from such habitats in the west where<br />
these are enriched with base-rich cations from salt-laden winds.<br />

of the <strong>British</strong> <strong>Isles</strong>: 196; 1970) _correlate the present-day<br />
distribution of this species with the 24°C maximum summer<br />
temperature summit (i.e. for the highest places in the landscape)<br />
isotherm for Ireland and Highland Scotland and the 26°C<br />
isotherm for Wales, England and Lowland Scotland.<br />
