Sales Management comments
This event has taken a new twist to consignment bull sales by allowing, not penalizing, breeding units to get as big as they
want as long as the quality of bulls offered stayed solid. We have encouraged our larger cowherd based programs to have
their production sales within the means of the event as it is a “win/win” for everybody, fi nancially speaking, as more costs
are shared by all. Buyers are also rewarded by convenience of more bulls in one place at one time.
The Bentley based Beechinor Bros will again have the largest string of bulls numbering over 30. When I saw this set of
bulls in January, the sheer uniformity of this many bulls was very impressive. The fi rst exciting infl uence of the Eagle Ridge
Fullblood cowherd will be evident in their group this year. Talladega sons will again be included in their Red Simmi pens
this year, among others.
The Lougheed’s Oh Kay Farms has been a mainstay to the Red Deer Bull Sale since the event’s inception. They maintain
a very loyal repeat customer base while accessing new customers from further afi eld. The highest quality ever from this
family outfi t will be offered including the fi rst sons of their new Fullblood herdbull, Rocking R Pol Ultimate 16U, that came
right out of this very sale and is a Polled Full Fleckvieh.
“Red Deer” has become noted as one of key places to buy Fullblood bulls and it’s because of strings like Champ, Starwest,
Saugeen, F5, Rocking R, Cameo & Wolfe that this reputation has been earned. This year we welcome the Applecross set
of Fullbloods.
Not to overshadow the Reds & Blacks with the Fullblood bulls, we will again ensure you that top quality consignments will
be offered by Don Heggie, Progressive, Silvercreek & Bar L7. Adding to these mentioned breeders with a nice set of blacks
is High Country Cattle Services and we welcome fi rst time consignors WJ Simmentals.
As we do see all the bulls ahead of time, please call on us with your inquiries. Join us on sale day for a complimentary hot lunch courtesy
of the consignors here. If you can’t attend, let us know if we can assist you with our industry high standard order buying services.
See you March 21,
We are again excited to be a part of the Red Deer Simmental Bull Sale. As the tides fi nally turn in the cattle industry, we look back and are happy to
say that we are still following our passions. With this being our 6th bull sale, we know that every bull needs to be backed by a great cow. Our cows
are selected to be functional in a commercial environment as they are run together with a commercial herd. When selecting our sale bulls we cull
heavily and only bring the cream of the crop to ensure that they meet our customer’s expectations as well as ours.
In this year’s offering you will fi nd our largest selection of Full Fleckvieh bulls. Much of the Fleckvieh offering is connected to our newest cows,
purchased from Eagle Ridge Simmentals in 2009. In Jay’s words “one of the best Fleckvieh herds in the industry”.
We look forward to seeing you on March 21st at the Red Deer Westerner Grounds. If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call.
Xhibit is a Fullblood bull that has an interesting look. He defi nes the phrase ‘attaching goggles’
by having them not only attach in the back but also in the front. Like his father, Xhibit has a
deep rib and more than adequate thickness. 905X’s maternal sister calved as a heifer last
year and ended up fostering a second calf. Both calves stayed on her and she weaned off
over 1400 lbs; plus gained two weeks for calving this year. This smooth made bull would work
well in any herd, if you like to watch calves grow.
Xaminer is a moderate framed Fullblood bull that has a wonderful haircoat and large testicles.
Here is another bull that ranks in the top 10% in the milk EPD. This bull is sired by the high
selling bull from Sunny Valley’s bull sale in 2009, Upgrade. Upgrade has grown into a great
looking herd bull whose calves are born easy and then get up and grow. 938X’s dam has an
excellent udder and is currently raising her third bull calf; getting ready for next year’s sale.
Xuro is another one of the fi rst crop of Upgrade sons to sell this spring. He is a moderate
smooth made bull that possesses an amazing haircoat, exceptional thickness and wonderful
depth of body. He is backed by a great Garner daughter. The Garner females continue to
show their worth in the herd; having a strong milking ability and the ability to create progeny
that exemplify thickness and ease of fl eshing without attaching a large birth weight.
Xit could most likely be the most powerful bull in the pen this year. He maintains smooth
shoulders and a small head that indicates calving ease. He has shown his thickness from a
very young age and has always been eye catching. He’s got loads of hair and ease of movement.
His sire was a bull we were really looking forward to watching grow into the meaty power
bull he was bred to be, unfortunately he was lost very young with a limited semen supply.
His fi rst daughter to sell was a $7000 high seller in Fleck Equation going to Keato Meadows.
Monique is a powerful Stulberg bred cow with an excellent udder and pedigree. We’ve had
comments that he could be the best fullblood bull we’ve raised to date.
BEECH BROS XERXES 948X
948X is our feature Upgrade son. Xerxes is a soggy, thick, dark red bull that has all the goods to be an
amazing herd bull. His dam is continually noticed by visitors. To date, she has raised a replacement
heifer for us, Xerxes, and currently has a full sister to Xerxes on her that shows to be an easy pick
for this year’s replacement pen. If you look at EPDs you will see that 948X is in the top 20% for both
milk and yearling weight and top 10% for weaning weight and maternal weaning weight. When you
look past the EPDs you will see that this cow links a high percentage of the Action cows, SU Diamond
457D. This can only help your herd!
The 80L cow has been a cow that we have been watching over the years and have purchased
a son from Eagle Ridge for the commercial herd. We liked his calves so much that we used
him on some of the registered herd with great results. With very strong weaning weight and
Xexon will be the fi fth son out of this eleven year old cow, who only looks six, to go out to
work as a herd bull. She has a perfect udder and is extremely sound. Like his dam, 955X is
a deep bodied animal with a wonderful disposition. He carries the typical characteristics of
Ulrich which include a thick haircoat, a wide top, and a big butt, all covered by a great color
pattern. The consistency in these Ulrich calves doesn’t stop in the bull pen as we have a set
of replacement females left at home.
I feel like I keep repeating myself every time I write a comment for these Ulrich bulls, but here
is a bull that deserves every word. Xzavier has all that a passionate beef producer wants in a
herdsire; deep bodied, long spined, large footed, wide topped, large butted, thick dark haircoat,
smooth shouldered and of course large testicles. The 26S cow is the same dark red color as
Xzavier and has a square udder full of milk. She moves with ease and looks as though she
will have a strong future on the farm. Don’t miss out on this good one.
Xanthus is going to be a bull that should calve with ease. Although 965X has a moderate birth
weight, is smooth shouldered and has a beautiful face for calving, he still has a growth pattern
that is very attractive. Other features that make this bull demand attention are his thick haircoat,
extreme depth of color (so dark that there are even black hairs), a great length of spine, and
huge goggles. Xanthus’ dam is a Legend daughter that came with the Eagle Ridge herd and
we were very excited to see this bull calf born. With her great udder that is full of milk, that
has helped her live up to our expectations. If you are lucky enough to own this bull, we would
recommend that you ensure you keep some daughters.
Xenos’ dam is a cow that has only been on the farm for a little over a year but has a huge story.
When we purchased the Eagle Ridge herd the 4T cow and her calf (Xenos’ full sister) were to
go to the National Trust Sale. Fortunately for us we convinced Danny to let both animals come
to our place. His full sister calved this winter with a picture perfect udder and an exceptional
amount of milk. Look to 945X to add pigmentation along with calves that are born smaller and
grow into very productive animals. Whether that is putting on pounds after birth or creating
those excellent replacement heifers, you will want to be sure to fi nd this guy.
Xemplar is just that. He is a bull that is long bodied with a nice haircoat. If you are looking for
a bull that will maintain frame size, increase milk, add muscle, and create a group of calves
that give you a number of different options, you won’t go wrong with this one. Whether it is
retaining heifers, selling steers that push the scales down at the auction mart, or feeding
those calves out, he’s got something to offer. If you breed this guy to your polled cows there
is a high percentage chance that you won’t have to apply any dehorning paste when the
One of our soggiest, stout made, loose hided, thick butted and wide topped red bulls. This
bull has the potential to raise a bunch of deep bodied, powerhouse cherry red steer calves
that will bring a lot of attention when the buyers get a look at them. He is mothered by a dark
red Bodybuilder cow. Bodybuilder daughters are famous for their great maternal ability and
she has certainly shown this after raising 927X.
A solid red, solid made Talahasee son out of a honest cow that brings in a great calf consistently.
After seeing this guy developing into a thick bull calf last spring, we made sure to breed his
mother back the same way. We were lucky enough to have another excellent bull calf this year.
A brother is working at Trautman’s and they are very pleased with him. Lots of uniformity in
this blood line and he will pass this onto his steers and replacement daughters.
Xanadu is our sale feature this year. This calf is a full brother to our high seller last year going
to Diamond J Ranch. He is just as good and was our heaviest calf at yearling. His dam has
been a very consistent producer with heifers staying in the herd and bulls selling to other
breeders. This will be the last year to get a Texas bull calf from here. We only have 2 straws
left from our package and now that Texas has passed away, there is very little semen available.
longer than most calves, so they calve unassisted even if the birth weight is a bit higher. Not
that an average of 105 lbs is excessive on cows. The dam of this calf was slated to go to the
This calf has a very moderate framed mother. He has gained quite well since birth but he
should get a whole lot bigger. If a guy could get his calves to grow like crazy at the start of
their lives than slow after a year of age then wouldn’t we have a more effi cient animal? This
calf could do that; steers that gain fast and replacements that don’t get too big.
Probably the only Titanic calf you’ll fi nd this spring . This big guy is our heavy weight. Big
goggles, lots of length, lots of top, lots of thickness and moves very smoothly. His dam is really
coming into her own with this guy and with the calf she has at foot now. A small framed,
almost solid red cow with a beautiful udder and great disposition. Check this bull out if you
wanna add a little extra to your calves !!!
Every year there’s always a few calves that really get you excited and this is one of my favorites. Cell-
Tech is a full brother to Muscle Tech, a bull who was one of our high sellers a few years back. I’ve really
liked this calf from the get go; he possesses a lot of great traits, sound feet and legs, great length, lots
of thickness and is very athletic. He’s backed by a powerhouse cow (Appollo X Heidi ). His dam is one
of those cows who isn’t the prettiest cows, but sure noticeable, little tear drops and cherry red in color. A
great bull you’re gonna love sale day!!!
come around. When 4-L dispersed we had heard a few people mention the dam of this calf and we
haven’t regretted it one bit. This guy has one of the nicest paint jobs I’ve ever seen. He’s the right
is the bull she produced. A good, correct calf with plenty of thickness. Have a close look – a
good bull to raise you some good replacement heifers.
These are a great pair of bulls that will be good producers. It’s tough to judge the true merits of twins. All things considered, they have held their own and measured up with the pack. Having an
Ultimate sire and Eagle Ridge Lobo dam should give you good performance with calving ease. This dam has raised 3 sets of twins in 4 years, so far, all unassisted.
udder, tremendous volume and incredible eye appeal. Ensign was displayed and admired by many
fellow breeders at the National Trust Bull Expo in October. He has continued to develop, and we are
