It’s simply impressive how effortlessly Jarno Kettunen
uses lines and colors. With only a few strokes and
blurs of color he creates forms, which turn into
persons in front of our eyes.
Kettunen leads us to the world of Haute Couture,
on the catwalk. First rather abstract, his figures
develop a sparkling vitality, a physical richness
and dynamic, just as the drawing process creates
them: as a swift sketch. Quick, focused on the
essentials, creating atmosphere, the persons seem
to walk across the image space. Captured in the
latency of their movements, they express the
swiftness of Kettunen’s style. His works create
curiosity to watch him paint and draw.

work of Finnish artist,
Jarno Kettunen, through
David Flamee, Flanders
Fashion Institute..
Jarno was in Santiago
de Compostela for the
NOOVO fashion and
photography festival.
Below are his action
drawings, you know how
it goes, you look at your
subject and not at the
paper.
Everyone is not documented
and some images were
actually stolen I guess
someone thought that
they were visiting the Passage
Souterrain, Mario Canal
and thought that they
were free to take the art.

We published a story about Belgian fashion artist
Jarno Kettunen in Issue 4 of Black Magazine with the
belief that Jarno’s conceptualised backstage paintings
of couture and top level European fashion shows and
collections would soon see the artist reaping accolades and
rewards for his talent. He had originally approached
us with an idea to run 6 pages of illustrations he would
make backstage at Chanel...
Dear Grant Fell,
Many thanks for your interest.
Today the director of ‘De Rode Loper’ has been discussing
with the Belgian representatives of Chanel and they
will present our project and the magazines that are interested
to Chanel in Paris. Now we just have to hope
that Chanel will take it. I will keep you updated!

Chanel turned down his request but in the year since
much has changed. Here is Jarno painting Jean Paul
Gaultier backstage at his show recently, and above -
his realisation of the Chanel concept for the Chanel
RTW SS 09 collection. Mission accomplished...

Jarno Kettunen lithography featured in a Belgian art magazine
“Kunsttijdschrift Vlaanderen” issue about contemporary
printmaking (February 2008).
The same lithography was also featured on the famous
“Drawn Blog”

Attending a make-up course at Chanel press office in Brussels,
Belgium to prepare for an artistic project with Chanel Fall
2010 make-up. The results of this project commissioned by
Chanel were published in the Magazine Enjoy in Belgium 2010.
