Tire Changing Equipment and Tools<br />
Tire changing procedures vary with individual<br />
operators. Certain tools, however,<br />
are essential.<br />
1) Heavy equipment jack.<br />
2) Tire tools and irons. <strong>The</strong>se include:<br />
• Several irons with dished or spoon<br />
shaped ends.<br />
• Crowbar.<br />
• Heavy duty rubber or wood mallet or<br />
lead or babbit hammer.<br />
3) Wheel chucks.<br />
4) Jack stands<br />
5) Air compressor.<br />

6) Service truck. In larger operations, a<br />
fully equipped truck can minimize<br />
down time. <strong>The</strong> truck should be<br />
equipped with:<br />
• A mounted hoist. <strong>The</strong> hoist should<br />
be strong enough to handle the<br />
largest tires.<br />
• An air compressor with a regulator.<br />
Models are available which operate<br />
off the truck engine or are self powered.<br />
• Large bore/super large bore inflating<br />
equipment. This minimizes inflation<br />
time.<br />
• Clip-on chucks with remote controls.<br />
<strong>The</strong>se allow inflation from a<br />
safe distance.
