• Director of the Monumental Complex Santo Spirito in Saxia and Bibliotheca Lancisiana in Rome.<br />

• responsible for the development of the historical collections (rare books, manuscripts and<br />

special collections).<br />

Key experience: Preservation and conservation, economics and management of cultural<br />

heritage, exhibitions, digitization and research projects focused on the history of medicine.<br />

B3.1.9 Bibliotheca Hertziana, Rome, Italy (HERTZ)<br />

Role: content provider<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome is a Max Planck Institute for the History of Art (<strong>part</strong> of the Max Planck<br />

Society, Munich) and holds in its library the most complete collection of books and visual materials on the art<br />

and culture of Italy: www.biblhertz.it. <strong>The</strong> library is a <strong>part</strong>ner in the “Kubikat” Union Catalogue<br />

(www.kubikat.org), together with the “Kunsthistorisches Institut” in Florence and the “Zentralinstitut für<br />

Kunstgeschichte” in Munich. Begun in 1997 Kubikat is today the most complete and important art history<br />

catalogue in the field: <strong>The</strong> collection of the Bibliotheca Hertziana comprises over 300.000 volumes, including<br />

approximately 10,000 rare books. Some of the rare books in this collection are large scale folio formats<br />

containing exceptional graphic materials bound together to form books. <strong>The</strong> research and IT de<strong>part</strong>ments of the<br />

Hertziana Institute have developed a research database “ZUCCARI, which now comprises several thousand<br />

scientific records together with large-scale scans of prints, drawings and photographs of Italian architectural<br />

monuments and works of art. For a <strong>part</strong> of ZUCCARO, the database LINEAMENTA see:<br />

http://lineamenta.biblhertz.it:8080/Lineamenta. <strong>The</strong> digitalised rare books of the library<br />

(http://www.biblhertz.it/deutsch/opac/dignel/digi-bhr-200.html)are still only in <strong>part</strong> integrated into this database<br />

and the total integration of these texts and images is planned. <strong>The</strong> Imperialle <strong>Project</strong> will furnish one further<br />

step in this process.<br />

Main expertise(of UTBV and its local <strong>part</strong>ners): digitization and databases, history of book and paper, early<br />

manuscripts and printings, paleography, preservation of library objects.<br />

Role: content provider and WP2 leader in: Database design and metadata specification.<br />

UTBV is one of Romania`s most prestigious higher-education institutions with a tradition of more than 60 years<br />

originating in the old cultural traditions and intense cultural climate of the city. UTBV aims at training highly<br />

qualified specialists in the fields of fundamental sciences, technology, economics, law, sociology, arts and
