“Fresha holds a special place in my heart”: Shawanda on growing<br />

her busy, successful salon - Sew Brooklyn in New York.<br />

In Sew Brooklyn’s own words: you shouldn’t have to travel<br />

into Manhattan for the service you really want and deserve.<br />

Fresha sat down with Shawanda, owner of Sew Brooklyn, to<br />

find out more about why she opened her salon and how she’s<br />

been using Fresha to grow her business into what it is.<br />

Shawanda saw that Brooklyn needed luxury of its own. “I<br />

decided to create that here for my community” she tells us.<br />

“When you walk through the door, you’re experiencing top<br />

notch customer service. We’re offering you champagne and<br />

we’re going to make sure you’re comfortable at every step.”<br />

Sew Brooklyn opened in 2015 when Brooklyn was “seriously<br />

lacking in high-quality service that was affordable and still<br />

put customer service in the forefront” says Shawanda. She<br />

describes Sew Brooklyn as one of the pioneers redefining<br />

the Brooklyn salon.<br />

“I love our clients leaving and feeling like they just had one of<br />

the best hair experiences that they’ve ever had” she says.<br />

But building that business wasn’t easy. During Covid they<br />

had to shut down one of their other Brooklyn locations.<br />

“After the pandemic things shifted a bit, and the business<br />

had a lot of changes” Shawanda told us.<br />

But working with Fresha means Shawanda has been<br />

supported the whole way “I really built the business with<br />

them, so I grew with them. I’m a mum of two, so I have a very<br />

busy schedule. As soon as I wake up, I open my Fresha app to<br />

see what my day looks like to make sure I can plan ahead and<br />

make my day flow easier.” Using Fresha saves so much of<br />

Shawanda’s time. From being able to schedule marketing<br />
