Color specialists Goldwell launched their “Colors of the<br />

Season” collection: Futurestalgia (above left) a compilation<br />

of eight saturated pastels with Peach Dream and Ashen<br />

Lavender tones as highlights. Foilyage and balayage<br />

techniques are perfect for achieving these precise yet subtle,<br />

more natural-looking effects. Above right is an artful fusion<br />

This look seamlessly blends a sumptuous peach with the<br />

CHAOS & CONTROL<br />

A couple of years ago a whimsical “jellyfish”<br />

cut was making the rounds. The bob part of<br />

the hair cut looked like the umbrella-shaped<br />

bell whereas the longer strands emulated<br />

the trailing tentacles. If anyone has ever run<br />

into Pelagia noctiluca in the Mediterranean,<br />

Charlie has nailed it! Like A-Rod’s barbered<br />

women, we love Charlie Price’s choice of<br />

color combo and cut on this muscle-shirted<br />

model. Why not?! One might think that this<br />

is an extraordinary editorial look, but<br />

perhaps not so commercially viable in the<br />

salon. But once again, the point is that hair<br />

is genderless, so this look would also<br />

inspiring us to think outside the box, to<br />

work with an almost iridescent palette on<br />

what is essentially combination of an<br />

undercut bowled bob with a shaggy<br />

overlay. Today’s men are open to blending<br />

or even covering greys. Some - especially<br />

younger generations - are even opting for<br />

more fashion-forward color services, with<br />

shaved or faded sides and back and fluo<br />

crowns. Unless a guy is enlisting, there are<br />

no more rules - so they can be whoever they<br />

When Missy Battaglia<br />

became the owner of<br />

Revolutions Salon there<br />

was no need to change<br />

the name! It was a perfect<br />

fit for her professional<br />

approach to both hairdressing<br />

and life.<br />

Coming myself from a southeastern<br />

Massachusetts town, I was intrigued by<br />

a reference from a lifelong friend about<br />

an extraordinary hairdresser in - of<br />

all places – Bridgewater! Not bustling<br />

Boston, but a small, sleepy, state<br />

university town. I contacted Missy<br />

Battaglia, the owner of Revolutions<br />

Salon. I should have suspected that with<br />

a last name that means “battle” in Italian<br />

that she would have an explosive<br />

personality! I asked if she was planning<br />

any editorial shoots. Yes! She was!<br />

But it wasn’t at all what I was expecting!<br />

Instead she sent a highly original and<br />

stunning collection reflecting individuality<br />

and the empowerment of lived-in beauty!<br />

Tell us about you and your career.<br />

I’ve been doing hair since 1993, and I<br />

could not be more excited to get up and do<br />

it every single day. Revolutions Salon has<br />

been in existence since 1984 and I became<br />

the owner in 2007. Hair is not just my job,<br />

it’s my passion. I love the craft, and the<br />

way a great style can transform the entire<br />

look and feel of someone. But most of all<br />

I love people, and I try to share that love<br />

with my staff and clients. I have an<br />

amazing career surrounded by spectacular<br />

stylists along the way, with my current<br />

staff being top notch!!<br />

Where did you draw your inspiration<br />

for Stargazers?<br />

I was inspired by these stunning women.<br />

When I was brainstorming on what type<br />

of collection I wanted to put together all I<br />

could think about was representing more<br />

mature women. Our clientele ages along<br />

with us and as a stylist it becomes very<br />

apparent that great style along with cool<br />

hair and kickass makeup does not belong<br />

to the young. People come in all ages,<br />

shapes and sizes, andI just couldn’t wait<br />

to put these ladies in front of the camera<br />

to have the 70+ age group represented<br />

and admired!<br />

How did you get such a variety of<br />

bespoken looks?<br />

These looked were achieved first by<br />

using their natural hair color and<br />

embracing grey, silver & whites along<br />

with blending in grown-out one process<br />

color to make that full transition to their<br />

natural hair shades.<br />

Second I used an array of scissors,<br />

shears, razors, and edgers to get each<br />

hair cut looking sharp and/or textured.<br />

Third – the styling: blow dryers, wavers,<br />

curing irons & our favorite Amika styling<br />

products were used, starting with plus<br />

size perfect body mousse, perk up dry<br />

shampoo, on lock high hold wax, fluxus<br />

touchable hair spray and top gloss shine<br />

spray for the finishing touch.<br />

How did you endure the process of<br />

letting your hair color grow out?<br />

“Actually, it was not of my doing. During<br />

pandemic I was unable to get a salon<br />

appointment for about 5 months. By that<br />

time I realized that I had no line of<br />

demarcation and my natural color was<br />

blending in nicely with what was left<br />

of Sew Brooklyn, NYC<br />

“Fresha holds a special place in my heart”: Shawanda on growing<br />

her busy, successful salon - Sew Brooklyn in New York.<br />

In Sew Brooklyn’s own words: you shouldn’t have to travel<br />

into Manhattan for the service you really want and deserve.<br />

Fresha sat down with Shawanda, owner of Sew Brooklyn, to<br />

find out more about why she opened her salon and how she’s<br />

been using Fresha to grow her business into what it is.<br />

Shawanda saw that Brooklyn needed luxury of its own. “I<br />

decided to create that here for my community” she tells us.<br />

“When you walk through the door, you’re experiencing top<br />
