Making andexhibitingart havebeen constants<br />
throughout GapesValleyartistRenataPrzynoga’s<br />
life.“There’ssomething you’rejustbornwith,”<br />
shesays. “Somerun,someswim; Ihavetopaint.”<br />
Renata’s work is on display atCafé Verde and<br />
McAtamneyGallery andDesignStore,and she’s<br />
on trackto open an artist’s studionextyear.<br />
Working inavariety ofways from drawing<br />
andoil to murals andsculpture,fromlandscapes<br />
to portraiture, Renata arrivedinNew Zealand<br />
fromPoland20years agoafter earningaMaster’s<br />
degree in fine arts forpaintingand fortextiles.<br />
Shehad learnedearly thevalue of having awide<br />
audience.<br />
“At the end ofthe Master’s, Ifortuitously<br />
hadworkondisplay.Iwasselected from young<br />
Polish artists torepresent Poland in art ata<br />
Canadian francophone festival. And the main<br />
organisers of theart side of thefestivalbought<br />
bothpaintings whichIcreatedthere.” Back in<br />
Poland,she continuedinart,including in highly<br />
visible commissioned hospital and museum<br />
murals.<br />
Renata says,“My styleisbased on surrounding<br />
nature.It’soften areflectionofwhere Ilive. It’s<br />
notnecessarily figurativeart Icreate. My emotions<br />
aremystyle.” Hercompass hasdrawn herever<br />
southwards,her work findingwelcome walls in<br />
galleries andcafes alongthe wayand detouring<br />
briefly into Christchurch post-earthquakefeature<br />
wall creation.<br />
In 2020,she landed in GapesValley. Theart<br />
now inthe Geraldine exhibition spaces and<br />
beyond wascreated in thestudioshe established<br />
there. In 2025, she says, “It’ll beopen tothe<br />
public andhostworkshops.”<br />
