CHRISTIAN COMMENT WAVES OF MEANING
The cry of gullsand the taste of
salt are evoked by asea
painting on my wall. I
accidentally bought it from an
art and craft shop, after it
transported me to the coastal
Wellington of my childhood.
The surging ocean swell breaks
around rocks as asunlit gull
glides above them.
Idon’t find it easy to justify
buying nonessentials for
myself –soIgave it to my
mother.
When she died it came back
to me.
While to others it may be just
apicture, it has significance
and meaning for me. Isee more
in it every time Ilook, and it
also connects me with both the
coast of my childhood and to my
mother in her latter years.
We humans aremeaningmakers.
We attachmemories
and hidden understandings to
ordinarythings. It seems to be
an attribute uniquetoour
species. It is aface of our
human spirituality.
Many people describe
themselves as “not religious”,
yet haveanawarenessoflife’s
profound moments and
wondrous mystery.
They have experienced awe,
inner peace, aroha, awareness
of interconnectedness with
other people, connectedness
with the past, with the whenua,
with nature.
Some people have taken a
further step in spiritual
awareness,and acknowledge
the supernatural, including a
higher power.
When disaster is averted,
they may declare “Someone
was looking out for me!”
This spirituality is based on
an understanding that “there
must be something behind
this”.
It is nurtured by our
inclination to seek patterns,
coincidences,synchronicity,
similarities, and to attribute
them to asentient being.
Some people find the greatest
meaningwhen they follow the
path of centuries of people into
aparticular faith. Religions
have been described as “a
specific belief system about
God …expressed through a
code of conduct, ethics, forms of
worship, and rituals.
Religion includes social,
ethical, and ceremonial
elementscombined with the
belief in an unseen world and
often adeity.”
The structures of New
Zealandsociety were largely
based on Christian ethics,
conduct and social attitudes.
Like about athird of the
world’s population, Iama
Christian.
Iseek to follow the example
and teaching of Jesus Christ,
who lived in the Middle East
about 2000 years ago. But our
faith is not adusty
archaeological dig, nor abookbound
list of rules and
regulations.
We have aliving God, who
offers to dwell in us through the
gift of the Holy Spirit.
We have aGod who answers
prayer with healing, hope and
wholeness. We have aGod who
offers real meaning to our lives.
May you have the joy of
discovering deep, lifegiving
spirituality, and the God who
utterly loves you.
Non-carious toothsurface loss (NCTSL)
andisamulti factorial non-reversible
pathology with agreat variability
inits clinical presentationwhich,
if untreated, cancause substantial
damage to the patient’sdentition.
Some of the factors associated with
this condition are: erosion (acid attack
from food or stomach), abrasion(the
wearingawayoftooth surface caused
byfriction or amechanical proces), attrition the wearing of the
incisal or occlusalsurfacesofteeth as aresult offunctional or
parafunctional tooth-to-tooth contact) and abfraction (the loss
of tooth structurewherethe tooth
