It’s all on in Term 3! New courses
and exciting events at Risingholme
A new line-up of courses and events
are on the way at Risingholme, offering
a range of opportunities to expand your
knowledge and flex your creative muscles.
As part of our 80th anniversary celebrations
we are thrilled to present our free taster
programme ‘Have a Go’ Day which will
be running between 19-25 August. These
mostly 1-hour sessions are a great way to
try something new in a supportive smallgroup
environment without having to pay
for a full course. The tasters span our course
offerings and a full timetable and booking
link is available on our website. Terms and
conditions apply.
Following this we are celebrating the
best of our creative learners with a public
art exhibition on the weekend of 14-15
September. Rise Up: Celebrating 80 years
of Creativity at Risingholme showcases a
curated collection of works made by tutors
and learners at Risingholme. Covering
a range of media from painting, pottery,
patchwork, textiles, wood sculpture and
more, Rise Up is a chance to celebrate
artistic achievement, empower and support
emerging artists, and contribute to the
wellbeing of our community through a
meaningful engagement with art. Visitors
will also have the opportunity to support
local artists by purchasing their work. If
you would like to exhibit your work and fit
the eligibility criteria, submit an entry from
by the 19th July. Entry forms are available
from the 80th Anniversary Events tab on
our website.
New courses are also on the menu for
Term 3! Take a food journey across the
globe with our newly launched Tastes
from Around the World cooking course.
Developed in partnership with the team
behind Share Kai and Kōrero, this 6-week
course will introduce you to the cuisines
of Nepal, Afghanistan, and Eritrea
through a series of traditional dishes that
capture the diversity of each cuisine. From
momos (dumplings) through to hearty
stews, flavoursome rice dishes, injera (a
sourdough pancake) and more, this exciting
new course will expand your culinary
horizons and familiarise you with the
cuisines and cultures of some of Ōtautahi’s
ethnic migrant communities.
Music enthusiasts will be thrilled with
our new Introduction to Piano/Keyboard
course which will teach you the basics of
the piano/keyboard and inspire you with
the confidence to want to learn further.
Keyboards will be provided during each
class, so anyone is welcome to join!
