About the Tombow Water Brush
The refillable water brush is a useful tool for watercolor techniques. By squeezing
the barrel the water flow is regulated. The water brush has a protective cap and is
perfect for on the go.
Balanced brush tip for painting and drawing
The adjustable water flow allows you to spread
the ink thinly or cover large areas at once, depending
on your personal preferences. When
used in combination with the water-based
Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pen, beautiful watercolor
effects are created.
How to create watercolor gradients
Apply your favorite ABT color onto a waterrepellent
surface like a clear folder, and use a
water brush to blend and paint. The more water
you use the lighter the color gets.
Coloring the skin
First mix 761 and 025 on top of a clear sheet, dilute the
mixture with water and apply it evenly over the entire skin.
Use 912 with the water brush to create skin shadows.
Layer a diluted mixture of 407 with water on top to add a
bluish tint to the shadows.
Coloring the eyes
Color the entire eyelashes with a mix of 899 and 407.
Apply 515 diluted with water to create a translucent effect.
Use the previous mixed color from step as a shadow
along the base of the eyelashes. Then, use diluted 515 on
the upper part of the eyes, leaving the lower part white.

Coloring the hair
Fill the white spaces at the bottom of the eyes from step
with the brush tip of 025.
Mix 899 and 407, dilute with water, and apply this color to
the entire hair. Make sure to avoid the highlights.
Mix 899 and 407 to a darker shade than in step . Apply it
to the lower part of the hair and blend it upwards with a
water brush.
To make the highlights stand out, outline the edges with
the same mix of 899 and 407 used in steps and .

Coloring the Chest Ribbon and Background
Apply 912 directly with the brush tip, leaving some areas
white for blending later.
Blend the previous applied 912 from step towards the
white spaces by using the brush tip of 025.
For the areas painted in steps and , especially at the
edges between the colors, use a water brush to blend the
colors to create a smooth transition. Use this technique of
applying color directly with the brush tip and blending with
the water brush for the other parts.
Use the brush tip of 515 to paint the entire background,
avoiding the moon and clouds. Then, layer 899 on top. A
black background helps to make the character stand out.
