Hey, over-the-toppers! Welcome 

back for another week of Over the Top! 

If Florida’s heat is anywhere near the 

humid summer heat we get in Arkansas, 

we are both in for a rude and hot 

summer. 

It’s so hot you can stand in the shade 

and sweat...even at night. I’m not too 

fond of the heat and the bugs. However, 

despite the muggy summer heat 

during the day and mosquitoes being 

deal-breakers on the hunt at night, I 

still love the Fourth of July and the festivities 

it brings. 

NEWS FLASH! Fourth of July is 

TODAY! Okay. I know. You all know 

it already, as you are home with your 

families; I get it. My significant other 

would be happy for the day off and not 

see the reasoning behind it. 

Seriously … 

He would lose his head everywhere 

if it weren’t attached to his body. This 

is why he is NOT the planner in our 

relationship. I can’t even get him to 

create a plan to create a plan for a vacation, 

for Heaven’s sake! And no, I’m 

not kidding. 

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Floridian 

or an Arkansan; it seems that holidays 

aren’t the same as when you were growing 

up. I mean, your joints don’t work 

like they used to, you are out of shape, no 

energy, you have the whole “this cannot 

be the same heat I played outside in as a 

kid” monologue going on in your head. 

Yeah, holidays are way different. 

But I look forward to grilling some 

good food and seeing some fireworks. 

They’re the must-dos for the fourth. Because 

what’s a holiday without food? It’s 

an “I’m not coming” holiday. 

There’s nothing like standing outside 

in the heat while standing next to additional 

heat from the grill. Snow cones, 

ice cream, popsicles, etc., can only do 

so much. That’s where the water games 

come into play. 

My family and I love swimming pools. 

Since we don’t have one, we play water 

games to cool down. The games include 

water balloon fights, up-and-over, slipand-slide 

bowling/baseball/kickball,

TO DRINK YOUR WATER! 

Does Florida have a mosquito problem? 

We fight for our lives daily between 

them, horse flies, wasps, and other stingers 

in Arkansas. Mosquitoes are even 

worse at night. We have an unwritten 

rule: you don’t go outside at night unless 

you build a campfire and roast marshmallows. 

The smoke keeps them away 

but try at your own risk. 

Well … 

Remember to stay hydrated and enjoy 

yourself! I’m off to eat, relax in some icecold 

water in the shade … and eat some 

more.
