ISPA day one power session opened with a performance of ‘We Are
The Champions’, by Boldijarre Koronczay, giving his rendition of
Freddy Mercury before Patrick Huey welcomed the audience and
officially opened the 2024 ISPA Conference.
Michael Tompkins was presented with the ISPA Visionary Award.
Michael spoke about the gender wage gap that we must work to
close and how spa director and fitness director positions were the
only hospitality positions that did not see wage increases in recent
years. Data must be collected to support the equality that we strive
for!
The three keynote speakers, Ryan Leak, Suneel Gupta and Justin
Wren all gave inspiring speeches with actionable advice on next-level
leadership, overcoming failure and making a meaningful impact.
Deborah Szekely, of Rancho la Puerta, now 102 years old, spoke
about aging: “The years don’t have to matter, what matters is doing
right by yourself and those around you.” Deborah joined the audience
virtually and presented Justin Wren with this year’s Alex Szekely
Humanitarian Award.
On the final day, five minutes of laughter yoga re-energized the crowd
before Patrick Huey handed over the role of ISPA chairman to Kelleye
Martin who will take over for the coming year.
The expo floor was abuzz with activity throughout the show, with
iconic brands and newcomers all welcoming spa and wellness
professionals eager to discover more. The experience center provided
rejuvenating treatments in spa-like environments where attendees
could fully immerse themselves and get to know the brands in more
detail. Each evening, cocktail hours, dinners, and parties were hosted
as friends reconnected and new ones were made on the dance floor.
The ISPA welcome party even hosted a country dance lesson that
had the crowd two-stepping across the dance floor.
