Okoboji Summer Theatre
is offering a new opportunity for local
middle school and high school
students. They will be offering the
Boji Bantam Broadway Bootcamp
the week of July 8-13. The program
runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. every day
with a free showcase performance
scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July
13.
The cost of the event is $375 for
the week, but there are a few scholarships
still available as of press time,
according to organizers of the event.
The recommended ages for this week
of classes is ages 12 and up.
All of the classes will be held at the
Boji Bantam Children’s Theatre on
the grounds of the Okoboji Summer
Theatre.
The students will get the opportunity
to work with a variety of professional
artists and staff.
“We are so excited to be bringing
this programming to Okoboji,” said
Madison Dodd, the Boji Bantam
director for the season. “We have a
wonderful lineup of guest artists and
professional staff that the students
will get to work with to sharpen their
skills in the performing arts.”
This musical theatre intensive will
include time spent working on singing,
dancing and acting. The students
will do a number of workshops and
will also get to spend time with
the rest of the company and
staff throughout the day including
mealtimes.
“They will get a taste of what
its like to be a member of the
company at Okoboji Summer
Theatre, which is pretty cool,”
Dodd said.
Each student will work on a
number of songs, monologues and
scenes with other students throughout
the week and will perform them
all at a showcase at the end of the
week.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, the
public is welcome to attend this free
program featuring the hard work of
local youth.
“At the beginning of the week each
student will do a mock audition and
we will assign each of them to do a
solo or duet, a monologue and short
scenes. The performance will be
about 30-40 minutes,” Dodd said.
The spotlight is on and the stage
is waiting for kids ready to report
for the Boji Bantam Broadway Bootcamp
next week. F
