MMoCA is pleased to welcome the
2024 <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Fair</strong> on the Square Jurors
SAMANTHA CROWNOVER
Samantha Crownover is Executive Director of Bach Dancing & Dynamite
Society, Madison’s premiere chamber music festival. A strong advocate for
the arts, she has a consulting business for purchases and collections
management, managing historic buildings, and producing arts events for
UW-Madison. She recently restored the Brisbane House, on the National
Register of Historic Places, in Arena, WI, now open to overnight guests. Past
positions include Curator at Tandem Press, a fine-art press at the UW-
Madison; Interim-Director of the Madison <strong>Art</strong>s Commission; Intern at the
Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and staff to the American Pavilion at the
Venice Biennale. She has served as president of many local non-profit boards.
VERONICA FIGUEROA VELEZ
Veronica Figueroa Velez owns <strong>Art</strong> MVF Design LLC and is the Executive
Director of DAMA, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster youth
development through collective art experiences and to train local artists to
stabilize and sustain community transformation processes. Figueroa Velez
holds an Associate Degree in Graphic Design and Liberal <strong>Art</strong>s from Madison
College, a Bachelor’s Degree in <strong>Art</strong> Therapy from Edgewood College, and will
attend Edgewood College in August 2024 to complete a Master’s in <strong>Art</strong> Therapy.
Through art-making and creative expression, she has promoted
community art spaces where people, especially youth, can come together to
build community, heal, connect, and draw positive change. She believes that
artistic expression helps open our eyes to injustice, conveying powerful new
visions and possibilities, and that our originality helps us heal, survive, and thrive.
ELENA I. PITTS
Elena I. Pitts’ work experience spans the field of fashion design; from a
seamstress to head designer for a bridal atelier, to theater and custom design
for a modeling agency, private clientele, and teaching. For the last three
years, she has worked as a full-time instructor at Mount Mary University. Pitts
previously spent several years as an Associate Professor at American
InterContinental University in Atlanta and a few semesters at the Academy of
<strong>Art</strong> University in San Francisco.
Pitts holds a Master of Fine <strong>Art</strong>s in Fashion Design, a Master of Science,
and a BFA in Fashion Design. In 2009 Pitts launched her WRTW (Women’s
Ready to Wear line) at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York. In 2015
she launched her Kids and Mother & Daughter collection. Pitts designed the
special occasions ensemble for the team of Russian Cosmonauts and, from
2010 to 2020, was the designer and stylist for the First Lady of Georgia Tech.
ROBERTO TORRES MATA
Roberto Torres Mata is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into the
issues surrounding migration in the Americas and beyond. He earned his
Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and his Master’s degree
from the University of Madison-Wisconsin.
Mata has exhibited at the Metropolitan <strong>Art</strong> Museum, Museum of Wisconsin
<strong>Art</strong>, Madison Museum of Contemporary <strong>Art</strong>, Chazen <strong>Art</strong> Museum, and
Antigua Academia de San Carlos. His compelling artistic expressions have
resonated with diverse audiences, leading to the acquisition of his pieces by
universities, museums, and private collectors.
Mata has received notable accolades, including the Graduate Research
Scholars Award, the Chazen Prize, and the Laguna <strong>Art</strong>s Prize, allowing him to
exhibit his work at the Arsenale in Venice, Italy.
