A str<strong>on</strong>g advocate for <strong>the</strong> arts, she has a c<strong>on</strong>sulting business for purchases and collecti<strong>on</strong>s management, managing historic buildings, and producing arts events for UW-Madis<strong>on</strong>. She recently restored <strong>the</strong> Brisbane House, <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Register of Historic Places, in Arena, WI, now open to overnight guests. Past positi<strong>on</strong>s include Curator at Tandem Press, a fine-art press at <strong>the</strong> UW- Madis<strong>on</strong>; Interim-Director of <strong>the</strong> Madis<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>s Commissi<strong>on</strong>; Intern at <strong>the</strong> Peggy Guggenheim Collecti<strong>on</strong>, and staff to <strong>the</strong> American Pavili<strong>on</strong> at <strong>the</strong> Venice Biennale. She has served as president of many local n<strong>on</strong>-profit boards. VERONICA FIGUEROA VELEZ Ver<strong>on</strong>ica Figueroa Velez owns <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> MVF Design LLC and is <strong>the</strong> Executive Director of DAMA, a n<strong>on</strong>profit organizati<strong>on</strong> whose missi<strong>on</strong> is to foster youth development through collective art experiences and to train local artists to stabilize and sustain community transformati<strong>on</strong> processes. Figueroa Velez holds an Associate Degree in Graphic Design and Liberal <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>s from Madis<strong>on</strong> College, a Bachelor’s Degree in <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> Therapy from Edgewood College, and will attend Edgewood College in August <strong>2024</strong> to complete a Master’s in <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> Therapy. Through art-making and creative expressi<strong>on</strong>, she has promoted community art spaces where people, especially youth, can come toge<strong>the</strong>r to build community, heal, c<strong>on</strong>nect, and draw positive change. She believes that artistic expressi<strong>on</strong> helps open our eyes to injustice, c<strong>on</strong>veying powerful new visi<strong>on</strong>s and possibilities, and that our originality helps us heal, survive, and thrive. ELENA I. PITTS Elena I. Pitts’ work experience spans <strong>the</strong> field of fashi<strong>on</strong> design; from a seamstress to head designer for a bridal atelier, to <strong>the</strong>ater and custom design for a modeling agency, private clientele, and teaching. For <strong>the</strong> last three years, she has worked as a full-time instructor at Mount Mary University. Pitts previously spent several years as an Associate Professor at American InterC<strong>on</strong>tinental University in Atlanta and a few semesters at <strong>the</strong> Academy of <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> University in San Francisco. Pitts holds a Master of Fine <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>s in Fashi<strong>on</strong> Design, a Master of Science, and a BFA in Fashi<strong>on</strong> Design. In 2009 Pitts launched her WRTW (Women’s Ready to Wear line) at <strong>the</strong> Mercedes-Benz Fashi<strong>on</strong> Week New York. In 2015 she launched her Kids and Mo<strong>the</strong>r & Daughter collecti<strong>on</strong>. Pitts designed <strong>the</strong> special occasi<strong>on</strong>s ensemble for <strong>the</strong> team of Russian Cosm<strong>on</strong>auts and, from 2010 to 2020, was <strong>the</strong> designer and stylist for <strong>the</strong> First Lady of Georgia Tech. ROBERTO TORRES MATA Roberto Torres Mata is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into <strong>the</strong> issues surrounding migrati<strong>on</strong> in <strong>the</strong> Americas and bey<strong>on</strong>d. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and his Master’s degree from <strong>the</strong> University of Madis<strong>on</strong>-Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin. Mata has exhibited at <strong>the</strong> Metropolitan <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> Museum, Museum of Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>, Madis<strong>on</strong> Museum of C<strong>on</strong>temporary <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>, Chazen <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g> Museum, and Antigua Academia de San Carlos. His compelling artistic expressi<strong>on</strong>s have res<strong>on</strong>ated with diverse audiences, leading to <strong>the</strong> acquisiti<strong>on</strong> of his pieces by universities, museums, and private collectors. Mata has received notable accolades, including <strong>the</strong> Graduate Research Scholars Award, <strong>the</strong> Chazen Prize, and <strong>the</strong> Laguna <str<strong>on</strong>g>Art</str<strong>on</strong>g>s Prize, allowing him to exhibit his work at <strong>the</strong> Arsenale in Venice, Italy.
