FATHER ANTHONY’S BLESSINGS AND THOUGHTS ....<br />
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.<br />
It is hard to believe that it is already more than 50 days past Holy Pascha.<br />
We just celebrated the Ascension of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and<br />
Holy Pentecost. This is when the disciples of our Lord saw Him ascending<br />
into heaven, and then He sent the Holy Spirit from the Father upon them in<br />
the upper room for comfort and apostolic strength two thousand years ago.<br />
Our lives on this earth pass by at the same speed while we are busy chasing temporary things like<br />
fleeting shadows. The Eternal draws near faster and faster. Our days are numbered on this earth, whether<br />
we know it or not. With the birth of the Church at Pentecost, we are called to acquire the Spirit of God, a<br />
force that can transform us and everyone around us. This transformation, brought about by the Spirit of<br />
God, is not just a possibility but our beacon of hope in a world filled with chaos and delusion.<br />
Evil created by self-centeredness, lack of self-respect, and cowardice overflows from the hearts of<br />
those who seek to gain the world, they divide hoping to conquer. In constant dissatisfaction, they keep<br />
building bigger barns and golden calves of self-worship. So, in this world, we find justice without peace,<br />
self-righteousness without compassion, and misanthropy enveloped in the urge for addictive revenge while<br />
the life is passing by.<br />
Therefore, Our Lord and Savior asked a very concerning question to His disciples: "What profit is it<br />
to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?"<br />
Because of this legitimate concern, we often seek eternal values and embrace the Good News of the<br />
Evangelion. As the Church born at Pentecost and led by the Holy Spirit, we have a sacred responsibility.<br />
We are the Church with the power and duty to bring the Good News to a world filled with half-truths and<br />
constant fear and anxiety.<br />
We live in a world bombarded by many loud voices from within and from the without inspiring us<br />
with disappointment and discouragement.<br />
Life in Christ begins with silence and inner peace, a refuge in the middle of the world's stormy sea. It<br />
reminds us that amidst the chaos, we can find solace and reassurance in our faith.<br />
Then He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased, and<br />
there was a great calm. But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"<br />
And they feared exceedingly and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea<br />
obey Him!" (Mark 4 38-40)<br />
"Who can this be?" They asked. The answer to this question we find in the prayer book of Τhe Βible,<br />
in Τhe Holy Book of Τhe Psalms.<br />

Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,<br />
Και στα Ελληνικά ....<br />
Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να πιστέψω ότι έχουν περάσει πάνω από 50 μέρες από το Άγιο Πάσχα. Μόλις<br />
γιορτάσαμε την Ανάληψη του Κυρίου και Σωτήρα μας Ιησού Χριστού και την Αγία Πεντηκοστή. Αυτό είναι<br />
όταν οι μαθητές του Κυρίου μας Τον είδαν να ανεβαίνει στον ουρανό, και στη συνέχεια έστειλε το Άγιο<br />
Πνεύμα από τον Πατέρα για παρηγοριά και αποστολική δύναμη πριν δύο χιλιάδες χρόνια.<br />
Η ζωή μας σε αυτή τη γη περνάει με την ίδια ταχύτητα ενώ είμαστε απασχολημένοι κυνηγώντας<br />
προσωρινά πράγματα όπως φευγαλέες σκιές. Η αιώνια ζωή πλησιάζει όλο και πιο γρήγορα. Οι μέρες μας<br />
είναι μετρημένες σε αυτή τη γη, είτε το ξέρουμε είτε όχι. Με τη γέννηση της Εκκλησίας την<br />
Πεντηκοστή,καλούμαστε να αποκτήσουμε το Πνεύμα του Θεού, μια δύναμη που μπορεί να μεταμορφώσει<br />
εμάς και όλους τους γύρω μας. Αυτή η μεταμόρφωση, που επιφέρει το Πνεύμα του Θεού, δεν είναι απλώς<br />
μια πιθανότητα, αλλά ο φάρος της ελπίδας μας σε έναν κόσμο γεμάτο χάος και αυταπάτες.<br />
Το κακό που δημιουργείται από τον εγωκεντρισμό, την έλλειψη αυτοσεβασμού και τη δειλία<br />
ξεχειλίζει από τις καρδιές εκείνων που επιδιώκουν να κερδίσουν τον κόσμο, χωρίζουν, ελπίζοντας να<br />
κατακτήσουν. Σε συνεχή δυσαρέσκεια, συνεχίζουν να χτίζουν μεγαλύτερους αχυρώνες και χρυσά μοσχάρια<br />
αυτολατρείας. Έτσι, σε αυτόν τον κόσμο, βρίσκουμε δικαιοσύνη χωρίς ειρήνη, αυτοδικία χωρίς συμπόνια<br />
και μισανθρωπία τυλιγμένη στην παρόρμηση για εθιστική εκδίκηση ενώ η ζωή περνάει.<br />
Ως εκ τούτου, ο Κύριος και Σωτήρας μας έθεσε μια πολύ ανησυχητική ερώτηση στους μαθητές Του:<br />
«Τι όφελος έχει ο άνθρωπος αν κερδίσει όλο τον κόσμο και χάσει την ψυχή του;»<br />
Λόγω αυτής της θεμιτής ανησυχίας, συχνά αναζητούμε αιώνιες αξίες και ασπαζόμαστε τα Καλά Νέα<br />
του Ευαγγελίου. Ως Εκκλησία που γεννήθηκε την Πεντηκοστή και καθοδηγείται από το Άγιο Πνεύμα,<br />
έχουμε μια ιερή ευθύνη. Είμαστε η Εκκλησία με τη δύναμη και το καθήκον να φέρουμε τα Καλά Νέα σε<br />
έναν κόσμο γεμάτο μισές αλήθειες και διαρκή φόβο και άγχος.<br />
Ζούμε σε έναν κόσμο που βομβαρδίζεται από πολλές δυνατές φωνές από μέσα και από έξω που μας<br />
εμπνέουν απογοήτευση και αποθάρρυνση.<br />
Η εν Χριστώ ζωή ξεκινά με τη σιωπή και την εσωτερική γαλήνη, ένα καταφύγιο στη μέση της<br />
φουρτουνιασμένης θάλασσας του κόσμου. Μας υπενθυμίζει ότι μέσα στο χάος, μπορούμε να βρούμε<br />
παρηγοριά και επιβεβαίωση στην πίστη μας.<br />
Τότε σηκώθηκε και επέπληξε τον άνεμο και είπε στη θάλασσα: «Γαλήνη, μείνε ήσυχη!» Και ο<br />
άνεμος σταμάτησε, και έγινε μεγάλη ηρεμία. Εκείνος όμως τους είπε: «Γιατί είστε τόσο φοβισμένοι; Πώς<br />
γίνεται να μην έχετε πίστη;» Και φοβήθηκαν πολύ και είπαν ο ένας στον άλλον: «Ποιος μπορεί να είναι<br />
αυτός, που ακόμη και ο άνεμος και η θάλασσα Τον υπακούουν!». (Μάρκος 4 38-40)<br />
«Ποιος μπορεί να είναι αυτός;» Αυτοί ρώτησαν. Την απάντηση σε αυτό το ερώτημα βρίσκουμε στο<br />
βιβλίο προσευχής της Βίβλου, στο Ιερό Βιβλίο των Ψαλμών.<br />
Ησυχάσατε και Γνωρίσατε Ότι Εγώ Είμαι ο Θεός!<br />

PRESIDENT’S REPORT ...<br />
Dear Parishioners,<br />
I hope this Koinotis finds you all well.<br />
Summer is approaching, Glory be to God, and many of us are<br />
getting ready for our summer vacation. Most likely, we have<br />
put this vacation into our family budget. Budgeting is a useful<br />
tool to make sure we can cover the necessary costs in life.<br />
Budgets are used in most families, all workplaces and all places<br />
of worship. Our beautiful Dormition Parish is no exception. We have a budget, which was approved<br />
by the General Assembly last fall. We spend our money on bills we must pay (electric, heating/<br />
cooling, water, salaries, etc.), but how do we earn money that is needed for the budget? Only one answer<br />
on the board…. stewardship!<br />
We must depend on our stewardship, and as John Jay Jackson Jr. says, “There can be no stewardship<br />
without stewards.” We all are stewards. We all are needed. Every little bit helps. If you have<br />
not made a pledge, please consider doing so at this time. If you have made a pledge, please consider<br />
pledging a little more. “God has given us two hands, one to receive with, and one to give with” (Billy<br />
Graham). Please help support our beautiful parish, so it can support you.<br />
Congratulations to our Greek School and Sunday School students for the completion of another<br />
school year. Thank you to the parents for bringing the children, thank you to the teachers for investing<br />
their time in teaching the children and thank you to all the children for being there eager to learn and<br />
socialize with their friends. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in the fall for yet another wonderful<br />
year. On a sad note, our Greek School Director, Christos Kazillas, will not be returning for personal<br />
reasons. Christos, thank you for your love, dedication and support of our Greek School. We<br />
hope to see you back at some future point as your schedule allows you. Don’t be a stranger to our Dormition<br />
Church. Come back and visit us.<br />
On behalf of the Parish Council, as summer draws near, whether, you will be traveling for vacation,<br />
staycation or relaxing by the beach or pool, remember your church is still open during the summer<br />
months, please support it as much as you can. Have a safe and relaxing summer!<br />

δεν αποτελεί εξαί ρεση. Έχουμε ε ναν πρου πολογίσμο , ο οποί ος εγκρί θηκε απο τη Γενίκη Συνε λευση το<br />
περασμε νο φθίνο πωρο. Ξοδευ ουμε τα χρη ματα μας σε λογαρίασμου ς που πρε πεί να πληρωσουμε<br />
(ηλεκτρίκο ρευ μα, θε ρμανση/ψυ ξη, νερο , μίσθοδοςί α κ.λπ.), αλλα πως κερδί ζουμε χρη ματα που<br />
χρεία ζονταί γία τον πρου πολογίσμο ; Μο νο μί α απα ντηση στον πί νακα…. Οίκονομίκη Επίστασί α!<br />
Πρε πεί να βασίστου με στην οίκονομίκη επίρτασί α μας καί, ο πως λε εί ο John Jay Jackson Jr.,<br />
«Δεν μπορεί να υπα ρξεί οίκονομίκη επίρτασί α χωρί ς οίκονομίκου ς επίστα τες». Όλοί εί μαστε<br />

MINISTRY AWARDS CEREMONY <strong>2024</strong><br />

“A work of Architectural marvel”<br />
Those are the words with which Metropolitan Methodios described<br />
our church as beautified by the Icons of Holy Saints. He rejoiced<br />
at the transformation of the sanctuary and community center.<br />
Dormition of the Virgin Mary has become a positive example of faithful<br />
stewardship, thanks to the dedication and hard work of all who love our<br />
parish.<br />
This year, we are privileged to celebrate the 40th anniversary of<br />
His Eminence’s enthronement as the Bishop of Boston and His service<br />
to our beautiful metropolis. This milestone is a testament to his enduring<br />
commitment and a profound reflection of the significant impact he has<br />
made on our communities, a service that we deeply respect and admire.<br />
His Eminence was enthroned as the Bishop of Boston in 1984 by Archbishop<br />
Iakovos. He has faithfully guided over 60 New England parishes<br />
from Vermont to Connecticut for the past four decades.<br />
On his name day, June 14th, the Metropolitan presided over the Divine<br />
Liturgy commemorating<br />
the feast day of Saint<br />
Methodios of Constantinople<br />
at our beautiful Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somerville,<br />
MA, surrounded by more than 40 priests from all over New England.<br />
His Eminence gave thanks that he is blessed to be supported by<br />
so many dedicated priests who serve the people of the Metropolis diligently<br />
and tirelessly. After the Liturgy, we offered Artoclasia for the<br />
good health of our Spiritual Father and Archbishop Methodios of Boston<br />
and for the family members of Stephen Kalivas, who dedicated the<br />
Icon of St. Methodios of Constantinople to our Church. St. Methodios is<br />
known for defending Iconography during the period of Iconoclasm.<br />
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios often reminds both his priests<br />
and spiritual children that, in the modern era of pseudo-sophistication, it is<br />
the living Icon of Christ, the human being created in the image of God,<br />
that is endangered. Today, “the religion of God who became man is<br />
faced and confronted by<br />
men who make themselves<br />
god.” We are to stand up<br />
against the modern iconoclasm led by those “who know the price of everything<br />
but the value of nothing.” “The Icon of Christ is being distorted<br />
in human beings in today’s world,” where billions of dollars are spent on<br />
weight loss programs and weapons and billions are on the verge of starvation,<br />
where the geopolitical race is preferred over the human race.<br />
