YOUR HEALTH© Best Version MediaPeripheral NeuropathyBy Dr. Christine Spurlock DC, Fiona Wellness CenterWhat are the Symptoms? If ten people with neuropathy are in a room together, they mightall describe their symptoms differently. However, one thing theywould have in common is that they all noticed an unusual feelingin their toes, and they first noticed it at a time when they were still, such as when lying in bed. Most people might not even be sure whenit began since the first signs can be easy to ignore. Some people feela burning sensation like their feet are on fire, while others mightdescribe their feet feeling like ice blocks. Some patients have nounusual feeling in their feet but feel unsteady while walking. Overthe years I have also heard some unusual descriptions. One patientdescribed a feeling of having duct tape wrapped around the ballsof her feet, and another said it felt like ants running up and downhis legs. Your nerves are what communicate what is going on inyour body, and when they are damaged they are going to repeat thewrong message. What causes this nerve damage? There are several causes of neuropathy, and today we will cover some of the most common.Uncontrolled Diabetes. With high blood sugar (glucose) levels, damage will be done to the small blood vessels that supply thenerves in your body. Without the essential nutrients supplied by thisblood, the nerve fibers can become damaged. Sometimes this happensbefore the patient is even aware of their diabetic issues.Chemotherapy: It is estimated that 30 to 50 percent of people whoreceive chemotherapy experience PN. Chemotherapy-induced peripheralneuropathy or CIPN happens when the medicine designedto kill the cancer cells also kills the healthy nerve accessory cells.Unlike damage to other cells in the body, your nerves have a slowrate of renewal, so the body often cannot repair the damage after thetreatment is over. One practice that is now being done in some clinicsto prevent nerve damage is using ice baths on the hands and feet. The idea behind this is the cold restricts the blood flow to the handsand feet so that those areas receive less medication, and hopefullyless damage to the nerves.Helping You LiveYour Best LifeNon-Invasive Solutions That CanRestore Your Health and happinessSERVICES• Peripheral Neuropathy• Chronic Knee Pain• Back Pain• Shoulder Pain• Hip Pain• Arm and Hand Pain• Foot and Ankle PainFIONA WELLNESSCENTER2905 Bob Wallace AvenueHuntsville, AL 35805256-489-3500AESTHETIC SERVICES• EMSCULPT• Non-InvasiveDr. Christine Spurlock DC8 SOUTH HUNTSVILLE NEIGHBORS Submit Content at:

When I was a student I wastaught that neuropathy was something a patient had to live with andwas often progressive, meaning that it would get worse over time.Today with advancing technology, there are many therapies usedfor neuropathy. In the 12 years I have been focused on helping patients with neuropathyI have found these to be the most effective treatments:MLS Robotic Laser: The M6 laser therapy works by emitting specificwavelengths of light to target damaged tissues. The roboticslight energy penetrates deeply into the tissue to stimulate repair andregeneration.Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy: Of all the therapies I use,PEMF has the most studies showing effective nerve regeneration, including studies by the World Health Origination and the NIH.PEMF therapy works by delivering electromagnetic pulses to targetedareas of the body. These pulses create a series of electricalcharges within the cells, activating cellular healing. This mimics thenatural frequencies of the body optimizing the cellular environmentfor regeneration and repair.Shockwave Therapy: This therapy targets damaged nerve tissue tostimulate the body's natural healing process, improve blood circulation, and speed up healing.bestversionmedia.com JULY 2024 9

Idiopathic: Sometimes there is no known cause of the neuropathy.
Typically this begins between the ages of 50 and 60.
What are the treatments for PN? When I was a student I was
taught that neuropathy was something a patient had to live with and
was often progressive, meaning that it would get worse over time.
Today with advancing technology, there are many therapies used
for neuropathy.
In the 12 years I have been focused on helping patients with neuropathy
I have found these to be the most effective treatments:
MLS Robotic Laser: The M6 laser therapy works by emitting specific
wavelengths of light to target damaged tissues. The robotics
light energy penetrates deeply into the tissue to stimulate repair and
regeneration.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy: Of all the therapies I use,
PEMF has the most studies showing effective nerve regeneration,
including studies by the World Health Origination and the NIH.
PEMF therapy works by delivering electromagnetic pulses to targeted
areas of the body. These pulses create a series of electrical
charges within the cells, activating cellular healing. This mimics the
natural frequencies of the body optimizing the cellular environment
for regeneration and repair.
Shockwave Therapy: This therapy targets damaged nerve tissue to
stimulate the body's natural healing process, improve blood circulation,
and speed up healing.
