if you’re sharing, their mixed grill platter with steak, boerewors, chicken wings,
and sides like twice-cooked potato wedges or creamy spinach is perfect for the
So, gather the crew and head over for a dining experience that's as fun as it is
delicious. Agrilla is located at Time Square and is open Tuesday to Friday from
2pm until 11pm, and on Saturdays from noon.
Book club
Being happy at 100. A murder in a retirement village. And ageing disgracefully.
There’s a load of fun to be had when you’re no longer nine to five-ing!
In Clare Pooley’s How To Age Disgracefully, Daphne knows that age is just
a number, but that society no longer pays her any attention – something
she’s happy to exploit to help her hide a somewhat chequered past. But
finding herself alone on her 70th birthday, with only her plants to talk to and
neighbours to stalk online, she decides she needs some friends. Joining a Senior
Citizen’s Social Club, she’s horrified at the expectation she’ll spend her time
enduring gentle crafting activities. Thankfully, the other members – including
a failed actor addicted to shoplifting and a prolific yarn-bomber – agree. After
a tragic accident, the local council threaten to close the club – but they have
underestimated the wrong group of pensioners! Penguin • If You Live to 100, You
Might As Well Be Happy. Well, exactly! Rhee Kun Hoo was in his 70s and retired
from his psychiatry career when he took up writing. Now in his twilight years,
his lessons for a long and joyful life tells of the often-overlooked value of ageing.
He shares his wisdom and philosophy for finding a life well-lived, exploring
forgiveness, how to persevere (but also know when to quit) and opening yourself
to the simple joys available to you every day. Life, he says, is a story worth reading
until the very last page. Penguin Random House
63-year-old Syliva is furious when
she finds her husband in bed with
her ... she hates living in a retirement
she’s certainly not old. She and her
70-year-old, tremendously glamorous
friend head to Manhattan to start a
new life ... which includes reviving
her wedding planning business and
being back in the dating game. Hillary
Yablon’s Sylvia’s Second Act is a
hilarious feel-good read, showing how
growing older may not always mean
growing wiser, but it certainly does
mean having a lot of fun! Orion
Small things, great love
Growing old is no walk in the park, something most people don’t understand
until it’s their time. But Michelle Meyer does. She’s always had a knack for helping
the elderly and those in need. So when she lost her corporate gig during the Covid
crisis, it was the perfect time to chase her real passion.
Text: ALANICKA LOTRIET. • Photographer: SHAUN-DOUGLAS STEYNBERG. • Make-up & hair: STEFANIE PAYENDEE.
12 Get It Magazine July 24

It all began when Michelle Meyer was looking after her dad, Izak, who suffers
from dementia. She saw first-hand how much the elderly crave companionship
… a listening ear, a gentle touch and a comforting voice. The little things that
make a big difference.
But before Michelle Meyer could spread her wings, she first had to hustle to
support her family. She sold beauty products, Tupperware, even dabbled in
real estate.
“My life took an unexpected turn when I lost my job after 15 years. Managing
on just my husband’s income was tough. It was then that my entrepreneurial
spirit, which had been dormant for so long, finally blossomed.” It wasn’t long
before Meyer Care came to life. Driven by her motto of showing kindness,
compassion and empathy, Michelle was on a mission to create a business that
would not only provide care, but also offer a sense of family and belonging to
those under her watch.
For her caregiving isn’t just about ticking off tasks. It’s about “making everyone
feel like a someone. No matter where they come from or what their story is.
Treating everyone with respect and love is non-negotiable.
“I will always heed to call of the elderly, the vulnerable and the sick. Because
that’s where my heart is. One thing we tend to forget is that literally everyone is
human, with feelings, and in need of love and attention.”
That’s what her business is all about … being a friend, having meaningful
conversations, and handling the day-to-day stuff like driving, cooking, and
ensuring home safety. It’s all about making life easier and more connected.
Michelle knows that age is just a number, and we’re as young as we feel and act.
But when someone seems to be having a tough time taking care of themselves,
it might be a hint that they need some extra TLC. That’s where she steps in.
Whether it’s offering a hug, a prayer, or simply some companionship to terminally
ill patients, she’s there to make a difference.
“Something more people need to realise is that you don’t need a company to
succeed. Just will power. When you realise that, it’s so much easier to just jump
in, do your thing, and help others in the process!”
At home, she’s your typical mom next door, who loves soaking up special
moments with her husband, Wayne, and their three kids, 10-year-old Ethan,
and six-year-old twins Gemma and Caleb. But it’s not only her family that brings
her joy. You will also find her with a paintbrush in hand every so often. Because
she’s oh so passionate about all kinds of art and the pretty things in life. Not to
mention the tasty things too ... she adores whipping up the most delish meals
and sweet treats for her family.
When she’s not at home, you’ll most probably find her in nature, and perhaps
even lacing up her sneakers for a well-deserved run.
“When it comes down to it, my family means the world to me. And getting so
much as a hug from them will always make my day. Without them I wouldn’t
have been where I am today. I truly am so grateful and blessed.”
Juggling the roles of wife, mom, entrepreneur, and caregiver might seem like a
tall order, but Michelle’s got it down to a tee. For Michelle it’s all about finding
that intricate balance (checklist in hand) … of giving each aspect the attention
and love it deserves.
“The three most important lessons I learned through taking care of the elderly
is firstly, to take risks. Don’t be afraid. Embrace every opportunity to grow and
learn. Secondly; live in the moment. Life moves quickly. They understand the
importance of not getting too caught up in the future and instead living in the
present. Lastly ... don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is too short to worry about the
little things. Don’t get too worked up over every little thing and instead focus on
the bigger picture.”
Through her work with the elderly and vulnerable, she’s learned invaluable lessons
about the importance of cherishing every moment and caring for one another.
Michelle’s top 3 daily stretches
Ageing can take a toll on the body,
but stretching is a great way to
reduce aches, loosen up muscles
and relax your joints. Here are three
of Michelle’s favourite stretches that
will keep you active and healthy.
Standing quadriceps stretch
• Make sure you limber up before
stretching by doing some light
walking around.
• Grab a chair or the back of a couch
for support, as you will be balancing
on one leg for this exercise. The
heavier the support, the better.
• Hold on to the chair with your left
hand. Bend your right knee, and,
using your right hand, grab your leg
by the ankle and gently pull your foot
towards your bottom.
• Hold this position for 10 to 30
seconds, let your leg back down and
repeat with your left leg.
Seated Knee to Chest
• Like the last exercise, limber up a bit
by doing some light walking to warm
up your legs.
• Sit comfortably in your chair, and
while seated, grasp your right knee
and slowly pull it towards your chest.
• Once you feel the stretching
sensation, hold this position for 10 to
30 seconds.
• Gently guide your leg back down to
the floor and repeat this exercise with
your other leg.
Hamstring Stretch
• Select a firm surface to sit on.
• Next, extend one of your legs out on
the surface.
• Slowly lean forward, breathe and
reach for your thigh, knee or ankle. (Be
careful with this stretch as you do not
want to hyperextend your hamstring).
Next, hold this position for 10 to 30
seconds and gently lay your leg back
down and repeat with the other side
of your body.
Painting up a storm
Compiled by: ALANICKA LOTRIET
Bianca Jill is the kind of visual artist
who sees the world through rosetinted
glasses. With a brush in hand
and a splash of paint, she doesn’t just
capture the beauty around her … she
amplifies it. In the prettiest of ways.
Her artistic journey began when she
was just a little girl, spending countless
hours with her gran, who was an artist
herself. These moments, filled with bite
size advice and the scent of fresh paint,
laid the foundation for Bianca’s lifelong
love affair with art.
“She would always place paper and
some paint in front of me while she
was busy creating. To this day I keep
some of those very first paintings in
a drawer in my art studio. They are
such lovely memories and keeps me
inspired, reminding me of how far
I’ve come.
“Artistic talent runs deep in the family
… trickling down from my gran to my
mom, aunts, and cousins, too. And
it’s such a supportive environment
where we can all learn from each
other, encourage growth and help one
another refine skills.”
Bianca started to pursue her passion
straight after school … getting her
qualification in visual communication
and first stepping into the business
world as a graphic designer. Then, a
decade ago, she had a spontaneous
retinal detachment, which left her with
impaired vision.
The demanding nature of full-time
graphic design soon became too
strenuous for her eyes, which lead her
to focus more on painting. Although
she still dabbles in graphic design
today, Bianca admits her true passion
lies in painting … a medium where
she finds her deepest expression. And
it was only a matter of time before she
opened Bianca Jill Studio.
Her poison? Watercolour. While most
art media will fall into line and obey
the will of the artist much like you can
expect a well-trained dog to respond
to you in obedient, predictable ways
… watercolour is, well, not like that.
Described by many artists as a cat, with
a will of its own.
And Bianca just loves it. For this
talented artist, watercolour painting
feels almost like second nature. Unlike
many artists who focus on technique,
Bianca allows the watercolour to
guide her, embracing the medium’s
unforgiving nature.
“You can’t really fix mistakes once
the pigment is on the paper. But that
just makes it all the more special.
Each stroke is deliberate, every mark
intentional, resulting in artwork
that feels both spontaneous and
deeply emotive.
“With that being said, I’m committed
to remaining as authentic as possible
and staying true to myself. I paint
from a place of genuine inspiration
and excitement to create pieces
that evoke a powerful emotional
response. I don’t believe in blindly
following trends.”
Nature is Bianca’s biggest muse. It’s
like the natural world just fill her with
a sense of wonder and provide a
constant source of creative energy.
“I’m forever in love with flowers, leaves,
birds, and butterflies, which is what
I most love painting. But I am just as
inspired by a beautiful book or piece
of poetry.”
Bianca dreams of expanding her small
studio to its full potential and exploring
international markets further. In fact,
many of her paintings have already
found homes overseas. She’s also a
regular exhibitor at Kamers Makers,
and is currently working on a new
collection for an upcoming exhibition.
She’s continuously growing and
spreading beauty through her art. All
it takes, she tells us, is a little passion,
authenticity and some paint to make
your life the masterpiece you’ve always
dreamt about.
Meet Bianca Jill, who turned her lifelong passion into her profession.
She always knew her office would be an art studio and her screen, a vibrant canvas.
And honestly … she wouldn’t want it any other way.
Your fave part of the job? I’m very
fortunate to be able to create every day. I
love sitting down to start a new painting
and seeing people’s reactions once they
receive their artwork.
How has your style changed over
time? I’ve always had quite a clean style.
I love a lot of white space left open and
untouched. Lately I love adding more and
more little intricate details into my work. I
am quite the perfectionist when it comes
to my work and I think you can see it in
my style.
The best remedy for overcoming an
artistic block? Just create as much as
you can. Don’t go for a specific idea or
end result. Just sit and let the paint do its
thing. It’s lovely to paint without pressure
… get your head clear and soon one is
inspired again.
The best time of day to create? I typically
prefer to work in the morning. The best is
when you are able to find that sweet spot
of flow while painting. And before you
know it, the whole day has passed.
How does art help in other areas of
your life? I think art helps you have an
appreciation not only for the beauty that
surrounds you, but also seeing potential.
How do you define success as an artist?
One of the greatest rewards of creating
art is being able to share it. I have often
had feedback of what a certain artwork
had meant to someone. I once added a
Cape Robin bird print to a package for a
client of mine and after receiving it she
said that was always a sign for her that
her father was watching over her. Stories
like that are worth more than thousands
of likes or followers.
Who is Bianca at home between friends
and family? I am probably the biggest
home body. I love being in my little space,
pottering around the garden and slow
days with loved ones.
How do you unwind? A good book
always does the trick. I have stacks of
books lying all over waiting to be read.
And, working alone from home, I find it
very important to socialise and get out of
my little bubble. I love walking and doing
yoga. Both very important for my physical
and mental state.
Bianca’s top watercolour tips
If you’re looking to get started with watercolour or improve your
techniques, there a few things you should take into consideration.
Watercolour is a fun and sometimes unpredictable medium. With the
amount of ways to use it, this could be a really long list, but Bianca has
boiled it down these basics to get your started.
• Good quality paper is a must. I’ve spoiled many an artwork because the
paper quality was inferior. Look out for Arches and Fabriano. I prefer paper
with a slight rough texture (cold-pressed.)
• Invest in a few quality paints with which you can mix the colours together.
A little always goes a long way in watercolour.
• Natural bristle brushes will always hold colour and water much better than
synthetic brushes.
• Learn to go with the flow. Watercolour has the tendency to do what it
wants. Let those happy accidents add character and interesting texture to
your work.
• Always work from light to dark and remember watercolour is a transparent
medium and tends to dry lighter so working layer for layer is key.
• Leave pieces of your artwork untouched. The white of the paper with its
texture is beautiful and adds to the end result.
• Know when to walk away from a painting. One will never be finished. There
will always be another stroke to add.
Fresh & fragrant
Snap away the winter blues with fresh, flavoursome garden peas,
bright Bumble Bee flowers and the fragrant aroma of lavender.
Text: ALICE COETZEE
Veggie of the month
Add fresh spring flavour to your food by
growing garden peas as microgreens.
They can be grown all year round,
even in winter, in a warm, bright spot.
The crunchy shoots, small leaves and
tendrils have the same sweetness as
peas, and they are just as nutritious.
All you need is a warm, bright room, a
damp growing medium in a container
and Kirchhoffs bush pea ‘Greenfeast’ or
sugar snap ‘Sugar Charm’. Soak the peas
in water for 12 to 24 hours. Place them
on the growing medium and cover to
keep the peas out of the light for 3 to 5
days. Check daily and spritz the peas to
keep them moist. Once the peas have
sprouted, remove the cover and move
them into bright light. Keep them
moist until ready to harvest when the
seedlings are about 6cm tall. Harvest
the first true leaves or let them grow
on to form shoots and tendrils. Using
scissors, cut the seedlings just above
the ground, rinse and use immediately
or store in the refrigerator. Garden pea
micro greens are a delicious garnish,
good in sandwiches, salads and stir
fries. Details: www.kirchhoffs.co.za
Garden tasks for July
• Prune the roses from 20 July to 3
August and dig fresh compost into
the soil around the roses. • Feed winter
annuals, herbs and vegetables in pots
with a liquid fertiliser. • Water spring
bulbs for 40 minutes once a week. •
Water the veggie garden once a week
and protect frost-tender veggies with
frost cloth. • Turn the compost and
moisten if the heap is dry. • Put food
and water out for the birds. • Service
the lawnmower.
Indoor plant of the month
Who can resist the fragrance of lavender. Feeling a little
blue? Just rub some lavender leaves through your fingers
and inhale their perfume. Pot lavender ‘Blue Magic’ is one
of the earliest lavenders to flower and it likes a warm room
or patio that receives morning sunlight. Let the soil dry
out slightly before watering and nip off the dead flowers
to encourage more. At the end of its flowering period, cut
back and plant in full sun in the garden or in an outdoor
container. Lavender leaves and flowers have many uses.
Add sprigs to cupboards to freshen them up or sip a cup
of soothing lavender tea before going to bed or put a
sprig or two under your pillow. Details: www.lvgplant.co.za
Calibrachoa ‘Bumble Bee’ for its vibrant, dramatic flowers
that bring spring just a little bit closer. This tough grower
flowers under the lowest of light conditions, brightening
end of winter gardens, containers and hanging baskets. It
also thrives in the heat, making it a long-lasting garden or
patio plant. Plants grow 15 to 30cm high and can spread
up to 60cm. As its name implies, it attracts bees, as well as
butterflies. Grow it in a position that receives plenty of sun.
Water garden plants once a week and containers or hanging
baskets more often. Feed once a month with a liquid fertiliser.
The Nellie
Mount Nelson dates back to 1899 and is unequivocally the grande dame of Cape Town.
From the Prince of Wales gate, up the palm-lined driveway, to the impressive porticoed
entrance, it’s all old-school glamour and luxury.
Images: Kate Argo, Sean Gibson, Inge Prins
Glam and luxury. Yes. Posh. Absolutely.
Pretentious. Not in the slightest. In
fact, behind those pretty pale pink
walls you’ll find the most charming,
affable, family-friendly welcome.
It’s a romantic destination for
honeymooners, yes, but also with
multi-generational travellers high on
the guest list .... a hotel where local
and international guests return again
and again - little wonder, as they’re
remembered and welcomed with joy,
all their favourites on-hand without
them having to ask.
With it’s prime location, extraordinary
gardens and views of Table Mountain,
the iconic Mount Nelson - A Belmond
Hotel - truly is one of the Mother City’s
most loved destinations. First painted
pink to celebrate the coming of
peace in 1918 - which proved to be so
popular it’s remained so for more than
a century, then, and now, the glorious
hotel is so much more than a place to
stay ... it’s an experience.
Bucket list one ...
the much celebrated high tea
First bucket list experience is the
well-known and much celebrated
Afternoon Tea. Chef Vicky Gurovich
goes OTT with scrumptious
savoury and sweet treats, while
Tea Sommelier Craig Cupido talks
you through the choice of more
than five dozen loose-tea options
- his favourite is the strawberry and
vanilla tea - a fine match for scones
and cream. Insider tip: ask for the
clotted cream, which is only served
by request.
Equally - maybe even more -
desirable is the breakfast - with the
health station, the seafood station,
the crepes and waffle station and
juice and smoothie bar and a bread
station the size of a small bakery!
followed by a dozen or so hot dishes
like eggs bennie and grilled kippers
and brioche French toast. Insider tip:
breakfasts are open for day visitors,
not just residents, so pop in even if
you’re not staying over.
For sundowners, order a Rose and
Rose - a heady mix of Cape Town
Pink Lady Gin, Aperol and Mount
Nelson rose, lemon and spiced
raspberry purée with a touch of
white chocolate - in the Planet Bar
... the achingly cool yet timelessly
classic bar with a fireplace for chilly
nights and a terrace for steamy
evenings. Or choose one of barman
Jono Makonga’s favourites - the Four
Noble Truths with Aqua Zulu Cachaça,
(made in Durban in small batches in
the traditional Brazilian style), mixed
with pineapple and roasted coconut
purée and lime. Just the one, though!
Insiders tip: Make time to stroll through
the mixology garden, where 95 per
cent of the botanicals used in the
signature cocktails are grown.
The Lord Nelson Room is moody ... all
wooden panelling on deep red walls,
where a roaring fire keeps things
cosy and guests play pool and chess
or one of the many board games ...
we can’t think of a more perfect spot
to spend a chilly evening. Insider tip:
The vibe’s smooth, old-time jazz ...
and you’ll find the Jazz Greatest Hits
playlist they love on Spotify.
The moody Lord Nelson Room
It’s a dog’s life at the Pink Lady. Check
into one of the hotel’s five ground
floor, pet-friendly rooms ... where
they’re as spoilt as you are. Think
personalised welcome cards and
treats on arrival, plush velvet beds
and chilled rooibos tea to cool them
down. They can join you for tea, where
there’s a dedicated pet menu, and are
welcome in most areas of the hotel
and gardens. Insider tip: The dress
code is Chommies ... and you can buy
limited-edition Chommies accessories
for Rufus. And ... a percentage of the
Take a walking tour of the gardens.
The style and layout can be traced
back 170 years, when Hamilton Ross
bought the estate by auction. His
nephew, John, was a keen landscape
gardener, and turned the farmland
into a park with an orchard, vineyard,
aviary ... with fountains and lion
sculptures that are still in the gardens.
The walking tour takes you past the
driveway of palms - 80 of them were
planted in honour of the royal visit
of HRH Prince of Wales in 1925, and
the Malay Banyan Fig and Australian
Paperbark trees, European Oaks and
the enormous Tree Aloes and so many
more. A fascinating tour for gardeners.
Insider gossip: When President Bill
Clinton visited the Mount Nelson, his
rather over-enthusiastic SWAT team
asked for those palms to be cut down
as a security measure. Obviously the
hotel declined.
For those wanting to explore outside
the grounds, the Nellie is in walking
distance of Kloof Street - all coolest
cocktail bars and chic little cafes.
But staying within the grounds is a
pleasure with all that’s on offer. Daily,
and complimentary, activities include
events such as coffee and chocolate
tastings, a bootcamp with a fitness
coach who’ll put you through your
paces, a history and architecture
tour though the hotel and gardens,
early morning yoga out on the lawn.
Insider gossip: John Lennon stayed at
the hotel under the pseudonym Mr
Greenwood and surprised guests by
meditating in the gardens.
It’s opulent. Extravagant. Lavish. The
attention to detail is extraordinary,
from the welcome notes to the
toiletry bags, monogrammed with
your initials, given on departure. From
the pillow menu with a choice of
half a dozen or so options to the fact
that staff remember exactly where
returning visitors (and there are
many) like their loungers placed next
to the pool, and what cocktail they
enjoy before dinner. Insider gossip:
The staff are obviously tight-lipped
about guests, but The Nellie has seen
everyone from Winston Churchill,
who was stationed there as young
war correspondent, to Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock
Holmes and a renowned spiritualist,
who apparently outraged guests by
If you’re visiting Cape Town but
staying elsewhere, day visitors are
welcome ... for breakfasts and teas,
or the popular Sunday At Oasis Jazz
Brunch. Insider tip: Book for the Chef’s
away in the kitchen, where you can
watch the chefs at work, enjoy their
creations, and maybe pick up a cheffie
tip or two while you’re there!
Safari style
Tintswalo Waterberg ... a multi-generational lodge, where luxury meets family.
A bite-sized, slow-cooked lamb-filled,
short crust pastry tart shouldn’t be the
first thing that comes to mind when
recalling a safari trip. But add to it a
glass of extraordinarily good red wine,
a walkway of glowing lanterns, and
a caracal casually strolling past the
fire, and you have the start of a jolly
memorable first impression.
The lodge, in the Welgevonden
Game Reserve, is intimate ... just five
free-standing units accommodating
up to 16 guests ... all romantic
mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms
and outdoor showers, fireplaces for
chilly evenings and air-conditioning
and ceiling fans for steamy Summers.
What’s more, it’s one of the relatively
few lodges which welcome - heck,
encourage - children of all ages, and
which has a couple of three-bedroom
units, making it an obvious choice for
multi-generational family trips.
The lodge is set up to be family and
group friendly ... with a communal
lounge, open living areas, an
expansive deck with comfy loungers.
Meals - really delicious wholesome,
slow-cooked, served shared familystyle
- are eaten outdoors on the
deck, or around the fire in the
boma, where you’re bound to be
entertained by the staff, who put on
fun impromptu dances.
Young explorers are well catered
for with a spacious playroom and a
children’s programme of appropriate
educational activities.
With around 36 000 hectares of
bushveld, criss-crossed with streams
and waterways, Welgevonden is
ranked up there amongst South
Africa’s largest private game reserves.
And the game viewing is plentiful.
With an incredibly successful antirhino
poaching unit, there are rhino
at every corner ... and it would be
unusual to not spot hippo, antelope,
dazzle after dazzle after dazzle of
zebra, lion and ellies on one of
the two open vehicle game drives
offered each day. With more than 300
species, great birding, too.
There are options to book a twohour
bush walk with a ranger,
and the newly introduced late
night game drive where you can
search for nocturnal animals like
the elusive pangolin and leopard,
as well as porcupines, aardvarks
and owls ... as well as some truly
spectacular stargazing.
The Tintswalo group is known for
the incredible attention to detail,
and for ensuring every visitor is well
catered for. So lovely, but no surprise,
that the lodge offers a fully Kosher
safari option, with Kosher catering
prepared on site in the dedicated
Beth Din certified Kosher kitchen,
supervised by a licensed Mashgiach.
This kosher option is tailor-made
for small family groups or exclusive
group lodge take-overs.
From first impression (those tarts!) to
last ... the ones at Tintswalo Waterberg
are exceptional ... as a family, it’s a
destination you won’t forget.
Sleeping out under the
stars in the bush is the most
incredibly exciting and romantic
experience. And we can’t rave
enough about the Tintswalo
Waterberg’s Stargazing Sleepout
Deck. You’ll be dropped
off after dinner at this magical
open-air deck for two ... with a
luxurious king size bed draped
in protective insect netting, lit
by the warm glow of lanterns
and the moon, it’s hidden in a
secluded spot overlooking a
waterhole, not scarily far from
the lodge, and you can drift off
listening to the sound of the
nocturnal animals. And it’s within
the electric fencing of the lodge,
so perfectly safe. Bucket list stuff
right here!
Would you book a lodge because of the bathrooms? Probs not ...
but these newly renovated, bush green and gold ones are simply
spectacular! Sublime Africology products add to the luxurious feel.
Many hours spent in the slipper bath!
Lion? Yes. But it’s the rhino that
impress ... thanks to the successful
anti-poaching programme, there’s a
crash on every corner.
Stuff you need to know
The area is malaria free, and the lodge does have WiFi. Rates are from R5920 per person sharing per night, which includes
accommodation, full board, two safari activities per day, house drinks, well-stocked mini bar. It excludes premium branded
alcohol, transfers, conservation fee, and daily reserve entry fee. Kosher kitchen is extra, as are the late night drives. The
Stargazing Sleep-out Deck is comp for honeymooners, but for all other guests has an additional cost. Children of all ages
welcome, those under 16 years must share with an adult. Children between 6 and 15 years are charged 50 per cent, no
charge for younger. Only when exclusive use of the property is booked will children six years and younger be allowed on
game drive. Details: www.tintswalo.com, Instagram @tintswalo_waterberg, Facebook @tintswalowaterberg
Cheers to Winter ... with a glass
of Tamnavulin Scotch Whisky
A sweet, mellow, smooth single malt. Rich, full-bodied,
with a complex palate of sweet, fruity, and spicy notes
... think rich toffee, dried fruits and hints of nutmeg.
Tamnavulin Double Cask is the ideal drink for these
cool Winter months ... perfect for sharing with friends
around the fire. A small group of skilled craftsmen and
women began creating this signature Speyside malt
more than half a century ago in a rural village in
Scotland. Matured in American oak barrels and finished
in sherry casks, it’s glorious neat. Equally as
desirable is the newly released Tamnavulin Sherry
Cask Edition, matured in American White Oak Barrels
and enhanced by a finesse in three different Sherry
casks. You’ll find it at cutlerdrinks.co.za for R529.99 for
the Double Cask, R549.99 for the Sherry Cask.
We’re giving a reader one bottle of each ... such a
brilliant Winter treat. For a chance to win, pop over to
@getitptamagazine on Instagram or Facebook where
you’ll find our Tamnavulin Spoil and follow the prompts.
