Atlantic Way, Limerick has plenty to offer its diverse student
population. A vibrant and modern city with an abundance
of shops and bistros, with a thriving nightlife and music scene
to suit all tastes and budgets, Limerick is big enough
to feel lively and exciting, but small enough to feel like home.
Limerick prides itself on a rich heritage and many historical
attractions, including the 13th century King John’s Castle and
the Treaty Stone. It also boasts a strong and proud sporting
tradition, particularly in Gaelic games and rugby. Limerick is
a fun, inclusive and great city to study in, with a mix of sport,
entertainment culture, and history that is hard to match.
Moylish Campus, Limerick

city and is our principal Midwest campus. Located in the
shadow of the world-renowned Thomond Park, home to
Munster Rugby, and a short walk from the TUS Gaelic
Grounds, more than 7,000 students are based at Moylish.
Students benefit from access to modern lecture theatres,
science labs and computer suites, as well as our state- ofthe-art
Millennium Theatre, used during the day for practical
classes and in the evenings and weekends as one of
Limerick’s leading live entertainment venues. Our Students’
Union building has its own games room, relaxation lounge,
café and radio station - Wired FM. A well-equipped gym
facility and several pitches used for both recreational and
competitive fixtures are also located at Moylish campus.

in which to live and study. Well serviced by the Irish Rail
network and growing its reputation as a university town,
Thurles has many recreational and cultural facilities. With a
thriving arts scene at the Source arts centre and theatre, a wellequipped
leisure centre, cinema complex and shopping centre,
and several coffee shops, the town has much to offer. For many
people, Thurles is synonymous with the GAA and
the famed Hayes Hotel, which held the first historic meeting
of the GAA in 1884, is located in Liberty Square in the centre
of the town. Semple Stadium, the spiritual home of hurling,
is also just a puck of a sliotar from our Thurles Campus.
Thurles Campus
Our Thurles campus caters for students studying for
qualifications in Applied Sports Science, Agricultural Science
and Environmental Science, Business, Social Care Work, and
Games Design. It is a friendly and student-centred campus with
excellent sports facilities. Alongside lecture theatres, science
labs and specialist games development labs, is our superb
SportsLab, a dedicated strength and conditioning facility,
designed and developed to the highest global standards.
The 2,000 square metre facility includes a 45 metre six lane
sprint track, specially designed to improve speed, as well as
a range of sport technology systems, including micro electro
mechanical systems and GPS systems. Planning permission
has recently been granted for a major expansion to the facility
to include tennis courts, GAA and all-weather playing facilities.
Clonmel Town
With a population of almost 20,000, Clonmel is Tipperary’s
largest town. A thriving industrial hub and home to several
leading multinational pharmaceutical companies, it has
plenty of shops, restaurants and lively pubs, and offers lots to
do for students living locally. If you enjoy the great outdoors,
Clonmel is ideally located in a valley surrounded by mountains
and hills including the Comeraghs and Slievenamon. After
a hard day’s work in college, you can enjoy the beautiful Suir
Blueway Tipperary, with 21km of the 53km route accessible
by bike or foot, or try your hand at some of the water sports
activities at various points along the river. Clonmel also has
a thriving arts scene and the annual Junction Arts Festival
celebrates touring theatre and live music, attracting an
array of theatre, music and dance performers each year.
Clonmel Digital Campus
Our Clonmel Digital Campus is part of the renowned TUS
Limerick School of Art & Design, and although a small campus,
it is a vibrant and creative hub that provides a relaxed and
friendly learning space for students. Our popular and innovative
degrees in Game Art and Design, Digital Animation, Visual
Effects for Film, TV and Animation, and Creative Media and User
Experience Design are based at the Clonmel campus. A fantastic
new addition to the campus is the €5 million Clonmel Sports Hub

a 400-metre IAAF standard athletics track, skatepark, walkways
and cycleways.

Our Online
Delivery
Methodology
tus.ie/flexible
At TUS, our methodology is rooted in a commitment to flexibility, industry
relevance, and personalised student support, ensuring that our graduates are
equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their chosen fields.
Our approach is guided by the following key principles:
Industry Collaboration for Programme Development: We recognise the importance of staying aligned
with industry needs and trends. Therefore, all our programmes are developed in collaboration with and with
input from regional and national employers. Through ongoing dialogue and partnerships, we ensure that our
programme content remains current and reflects the latest advancements and requirements in various
sectors.
Flexible Online Delivery: Flexibility is at the core of our approach. Our online programmes are designed to
accommodate the busy schedules of our diverse student body. All classes are conducted live via
Zoom/Microsoft Teams, allowing for interactive engagement and real-time interaction with lecturers and
classmates. We also understand the varying commitments of our students, so all classes are recorded and
available soon after on Moodle, enabling students to access course materials at their convenience.
Creating a Vibrant Community of Learning: We recognise the value of peer-to-peer learning and support.
We understand that a huge amount of learning comes from the past experiences of the class group. We aim
to actively create a sense of community among our students, providing opportunities for networking,
collaboration, and shared experiences. Through Zoom/Microsoft Teams Breakout Rooms, virtual discussion
forums, group projects, and collaborative class activities, we encourage interaction and engagement among
our students, fostering a supportive and dynamic learning environment.
Targeted Support Services: We understand that navigating educational pathways can be challenging,
especially for adult students. That's why we offer comprehensive support services tailored to the needs of our
students. From dedicated Student Advisors who provide personalised guidance and assistance to
comprehensive Induction Sessions that ensure students are equipped with the tools and resources they
need to succeed, our support services are designed to empower every student on their individual educational
journey.
Empowering Students with Practical Skills and Real Feedback: Our programmes are not just about
theoretical knowledge; they are designed to equip students with practical, industry-relevant skills. By
focusing on real life experiences, case studies, and real world applications, we ensure that our graduates are
well-prepared to excel in their respective fields upon completion of their studies. Our lecturers also provide
feedback on all coursework and assignments, so that students know where they stand from an academic
perspective, and where they can put their focus to improve.
Making Education Affordable and Accessible: We are committed to making education accessible and
affordable for all. We aim to remove financial barriers to study and ensure that cost is not a hindrance to
accessing quality education. To this end, we actively seek out and submit proposals for available funding
streams such as government initiatives like Springboard+ and the Human Capital Initiative (HCI) to help
offset the cost of study for our students.
Continuous Improvement: We are committed to continuous improvement. As industries evolve and new
trends emerge, we remain agile in updating our programme content to reflect these changes. Through
ongoing feedback mechanisms from students and assessment of graduate outcomes, we strive to deliver
the highest quality education that meets the evolving needs of our students and the industries they serve.

What Our Graduates Say...
“The Postgraduate Diploma in Executive
Management has provided me with the skills and
knowledge to compete in the contemporary working
environment. The course has also introduced me to
managers and leaders from different industry
sectors, that bring a wealth of knowledge and
experience. TUS understands that it is not easy to
balance a part-time course with work and family
commitments and are constantly monitoring
feedback to facilitate the ultimate learning
environment. The support mechanisms within TUS
are unmatchable in my experience and bestows great
peace of mind. The lecturers have a wealth of industry
Claire Anne Ferry

the transition from theory to practice and how
different frameworks can be manipulated to meet
different needs. If you are looking to upskill, or gain a
greater knowledge of business, then this is the course

Spotlight on
Human Resource Management
In Conversation
With...
Why did you choose to study at TUS?
I suppose I work in a leadership role - I’m a principal of a local
primary school and most of my learnings in Human Resources
would have been on the job, you are appointed to that position
without training in HR and you find yourself managing up to 10 or
20 people so I wanted to get the theory into my head which
would align with my everyday practice and improve my
practise in the future.
What did you choose part-time, online delivery?
The flexibility is great! Firstly, you can learn from home. You don’t have to do any
travel, some of our class were in other parts of the country and indeed I travelled to
other parts of the world during my course because I could do it online. I think the other
aspect which was important to me was that all the lectures were all recorded, It’s
always beneficial to rewatch and listen more carefully the second time around!
Did you find the Springboard+ funding beneficial to you?
Oh yes absolutely! The Springboard+ funding was incredible, I think a lot of people out
there need this training in their workplaces and the funding affords them the ability to
do these courses. The funding allows more people to do the course, better engagement
in Human resource Management as a topic and will result in better leaders out there in
industry, Education, and any walk of life.
How did you find studying online?
You have to have good internet obviously but apart from that it’s great. Most of us these
days are IT savvy, and open to new technologies such as Moodle our Virtual Learning
Environment and Zoom for our online lectures.
How has the course helped your career prospects?
Certainly this course helped me to reflect on my own practice as a person working in
Human Resource Management since 2006 and has definitely made me a better
practitioner in my current career. The course has also helped me in regards to exploring
other careers that I may enjoy in the future.
What advise would you give to someone thinking about studying online?
Just go for it! Its very flexible, its inexpensive which is important these days, the quality of
education is really good, and I think the support is amazing. Oh and you get a student
card too- that’s very beneficial from time to time! I think in terms of your career - A long
long time ago at a time when most people didn’t have certificates or degrees, a very wise
old lady in our neighbourhood used to say to me “Young Geraghty, the bit of paper will
bring you that bit further”, and throughout my career I think that's the best advice I
have heard.

Why did you choose your course?
I wanted to get into marketing and my bachelors degree was in TV, Radio
and New Media Broadcasting so it didn‘t allow me to get a full time position
in marketing. I loved social media and wanted to work in that and luckily
because of this course I have secured a full time job in digital marketing so
I’m delighted!
Did you receive funding to do this course?
My course was Springboard+ funded so I only had to pay 10% as I was full -
time employed, this allowed me to work full-time as well as do the course
and I didn’t have a huge loan hanging over my head which allowed me to
actually do the course. It was brilliant having access to do a course like this
without having to worry about the financial aspect of it.
How did you find studying online?
It was different for me at the start as I was used to the traditional classroom
environment but I needed the flexibility of online learning so I could work
full-time and earn a wage as well as upskilling. We had two live classes per
week plus recorded classes- these were amazing as they allowed you to live
your life not be bound to classes every night and then catch up when
convenient.
Do you think this course has helped your career prospects?
This course actually allowed me to get a job in marketing which before this I
didn’t think was possible for me, I thought I would have needed to do
another course such as the Masters in Digital Marketing. It was great as you
got a taste of all the different aspects of marketing so it allowed you to
explore different opportunities and your preferences within the course. I got
a job in hospitality marketing but during the course we tried different types
of marketing which opens you up to so many opportunities career-wise. If
you put in the effort , you get the rewards!

What is Recognition of Prior
Learning? (RPL)
RPL makes it possible for an individual to
build on learning achieved and to be rewarded
for it.
The philosophy underpinning the Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL) is to enable and encourage people to
enter or re-enter formal education, leading to
qualifications, by awarding exemptions or recognising
credit for what they already know from the programme
curriculum.
A fundamental principle of RPL is that a learner should
not be asked to relearn something they already know.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process by
which prior learning is formally valued.
It is a means by which prior learning is identified,
assessed, and recognised by an educational institution
as part of their programmes, courses, and/or modules
on the National Framework of Qualifications and can
count towards entry/admission, advanced entry, credit
or exemptions from modules on a course.
The purpose of RPL is to enable prospective and current
students to consider their prior learning as a valuable
mechanism to facilitate access to further education
opportunities and progression. RPL is based around the
prior learning of a prospective or current student and
this may be certified learning (formal/accredited) or
experiential learning (non-certified/informal/experiential
learning). Experiential learning is learning which has
occurred through the workplace or through experience
and outside of formal education systems.
The TUS RPL policy recognises both certified and
experiential learning and applications can be made
based on prior experiential learning, formal learning or a
combination of both.
For more information on National RPL in Higher
Education Project, TUS RPL Policies and TUS
RPL Application see tus.ie/registry/rpl/

What are Learning Credits? (ECTS)
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is an academic credit system based on the estimated student
workload required to achieve the objectives and learning outcomes of a module or programme of study. It is designed to enable
academic recognition for periods of study, to facilitate student mobility and credit accumulation and transfer. The ECTS is the
recommended credit system for higher education in Ireland and across the European Higher Education Area.
ECTS express the volume of learning based on defined learning outcomes and their associated workload and are expressed in full
numbers. 1 ECTS equates to approximately 20 to 25 hours student work. For example: 60 ECTS credits are allocated to the learning
outcomes and associated workload of a full-time academic year or its equivalent. A full time honours degree is usually 240 ECTS
spread over 4 years.
Technological University of the Shannon offers short programmes of 10 ECTS or less up to full awards of 120, 180 and 240
ECTS.
