Apolytikion of St. Catherine
Let us praise the most auspicious bride of
Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress of
Sinai, our aid and our help. For, she brilliantly
silenced the eloquence of the impious
by the sword of the spirit, and now,
crowned as a martyr, she asks great mercy
for all.
Apolytikion of the Church
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your virginity;
in your dormition you did not forsake
the world O Theotokos. You were
translated onto life, since you were the
Mother of life; And by your intercessions do
you redeem our souls from death.

When the Most High God came down and
confused the tongues, He divided the nations.
When He distributed the tongues of
fire, He called all to unity. And with one
voice we glorify the all-holy Spirit.

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES (2:1-11)
WHEN THE DAY of Pentecost had
come, they were all together in one place.
And suddenly a sound came from heaven
like the rush of a mighty wind, and it
filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared to them tongues
as of fire, distributed and resting on each
one of them. And they were all filled with
the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem
Jews, devout men from every nation
under heaven. And at this sound the multitude
came together, and they were bewildered,
because each one heard them
speaking in his own language. And they
were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are
not all these who are speaking Galileans?
And how is it that we hear, each of us in
his own native language? Parthians and
Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia,
Judea and Cappadocia, Pontos
and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt
and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene,
and visitors from Rome, both Jews and
proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear
them telling in our own tongues the
mighty works of God."

Ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὴν ἡμέραν τῆς
Πεντηκοστῆς, ἦσαν ἅπαντεςN
ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό. Καὶ ἐγένετο
ἄφνω ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἦχος ὥσπερ
φερομένης πνοῆς βιαίας, καὶ ἐπλήρωσεν
ὅλον τὸν οἶκον οὗ ἦσαν καθήμενοι. Καὶ
ὤφθησαν αὐτοῖς διαμεριζόμεναι γλῶσσαι
ὡσεὶ πυρός, ἐκάθισέν τε ἐφʼ ἕνα ἕκαστον
αὐτῶν. Καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν ἅπαντες
πνεύματος ἁγίου, καὶ ἤρξαντο λαλεῖν
ἑτέραις γλώσσαις, καθὼς τὸ πνεῦμα
ἐδίδου αὐτοῖς ἀποφθέγγεσθαι. Ἦσαν δὲ
ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ κατοικοῦντες Ἰουδαῖοι,
ἄνδρες εὐλαβεῖς, ἀπὸ παντὸς ἔθνους τῶν
ὑπὸ τὸν οὐρανόν. Γενομένης δὲ τῆς
φωνῆς ταύτης, συνῆλθεν τὸ πλῆθος καὶ
συνεχύθη, ὅτι ἤκουον εἷς ἕκαστος τῇ ἰδίᾳ
διαλέκτῳ λαλούντων αὐτῶν. Ἐξίσταντο
δὲ πάντες καὶ ἐθαύμαζον, λέγοντες πρὸς
ἀλλήλους, Οὐκ ἰδοὺ πάντες οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ
λαλοῦντες Γαλιλαῖοι; Καὶ πῶς ἡμεῖς
ἀκούομεν ἕκαστος τῇ ἰδίᾳ διαλέκτῳ ἡμῶν

Ἐλαμῖται, καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν

GOSPEL READING
JOHN (7:37-52, 8:12)
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus
stood up and proclaimed, "If any one
thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who
believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out
of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'"
Now this he said about the Spirit, which those
who believed in him were to receive; for as yet
the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus
was not yet glorified.
When they heard these words, some of the
people said, "This is really the prophet." Others
said, "This is the Christ." But some said,
"Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not
the scripture said that the Christ is descended
from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the
village where David was?" So there was a division
among the people over him. Some of
them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid
hands on him.
The officers then went back to the chief priests
and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did
you not bring him?" The officers answered,
"No man ever spoke like this man!" The Pharisees
answered them, "Are you led astray, you
also? Have any of the authorities or of the
Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd,
who do not know the law, are accursed." Nikodemos,
who had gone to him before, and
who was one of them, said to them, "Does our
law judge a man without first giving him a
hearing and learning what he does?" They replied,
"Are you from Galilee too? Search and
you will see that no prophet is to rise from
Galilee." Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I
am the light of the world; he who follows me
will not walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life."

Εν δὲ τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ μεγάλῃ τῆς
ἑορτῆς εἱστήκει ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς καὶ ἔκραξε λέγων·
ἐάν τις διψᾷ, ἐρχέσθω πρός με καὶ πινέτω. ὁ
πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, καθὼς εἶπεν ἡ γραφή,
ποταμοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ ῥεύσουσιν
ὕδατος ζῶντος. τοῦτο δὲ εἶπε περὶ τοῦ
Πνεύματος οὗ ἔμελλον λαμβάνειν οἱ
πιστεύοντες εἰς αὐτόν· οὔπω γὰρ ἦν Πνεῦμα
῞Αγιον, ὅτι ᾿Ιησοῦς οὐδέπω ἐδοξάσθη. Πολλοὶ
οὖν ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον
ἔλεγον· οὗτός ἐστιν ἀληθῶς ὁ προφήτης· ἄλλοι
ἔλεγον· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός· ἄλλοι ἔλεγον·
μὴ γὰρ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ὁ Χριστὸς
ἔρχεται; οὐχὶ ἡ γραφὴ εἶπεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ
σπέρματος Δαυῒδ καὶ ἀπὸ Βηθλεὲμ τῆς κώμης,
ὅπου ἦν Δαυΐδ, ὁ Χριστὸς ἔρχεται; σχίσμα οὖν
ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἐγένετο δι᾽ αὐτόν. τινὲς δὲ ἤθελον
ἐξ αὐτῶν πιάσαι αὐτόν, ἀλλ᾽ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν
ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας. ῏Ηλθον οὖν οἱ ὑπηρέται
πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ Φαρισαίους, καὶ εἶπον
αὐτοῖς ἐκεῖνοι· διατί οὐκ ἠγάγετε
αὐτόν; ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ ὑπηρέται· οὐδέποτε
οὕτως ἐλάλησεν ἄνθρωπος, ὡς οὗτος ὁ
ἄνθρωπος. ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν αὐτοῖς οἱ
Φαρισαῖοι· μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς πεπλάνησθε; μή τις ἐκ
τῶν ἀρχόντων ἐπίστευσεν εἰς αὐτὸν ἢ ἐκ τῶν
Φαρισαίων; ἀλλ᾽ ὁ ὄχλος οὗτος ὁ μὴ γινώσκων
τὸν νόμον ἐπικατάρατοί εἰσι! λέγει Νικόδημος
πρὸς αὐτούς, ὁ ἐλθὼν νυκτὸς πρὸς αὐτόν, εἷς
ὢν ἐξ αὐτῶν· μὴ ὁ νόμος ἡμῶν κρίνει τὸν
ἄνθρωπον, ἐὰν μὴ ἀκούσῃ παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ
πρότερον καὶ γνῷ τί ποιεῖ; ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ
εἶπον αὐτῷ· μὴ καὶ σὺ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶ;
ἐρεύνησον καὶ ἴδε ὅτι προφήτης ἐκ τῆς
Γαλιλαίας οὐκ ἐγήγερται. Πάλιν οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ
᾿Ιησοῦς ἐλάλησε λέγων· ἐγώ εἰμι τὸ φῶς τοῦ
κόσμου· ὁ ἀκολουθῶν ἐμοὶ οὐ μὴ περιπατήσῃ
ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ, ἀλλ᾽ ἕξει τὸ φῶς τῆς ζωῆς.

Fr. Anthony’s Thoughts about the Sunday Gospel
Pentecost
St John 7 (37-52) 8 (1-12)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today is the day of Pentecost. 50 days after the great feast
of Passover. The central message for today is the descent
of the Holy Spirit on all Christians. They spoke in other languages after what
happened in Jerusalem, but the gifts of the Spirit are many. At that time, they
needed languages to reach out to all the nations of the world. Today that is not
the case anymore.
Today, we need to look at other gifts that come with the Holy Spirit. The
gift of Love, the gift of patience, the gift of care and kindness, the gift of humility.
Today most importantly, we need the gift of unity in this individualistic, impersonal,
and divided world. In a world where our friends are online not around
the table or working across the world instead of working shoulder to shoulder.
At the tower of Babel, languages were separated and humanity was divided
into many nations; at Pentecost, the Holy spirit came to unite all nations. Today
we need to understand one thing. Speaking someone’s language is only the
beginning of having communion with them.
The true communion is the communion of Love so, in order to experience
the unity of the Holy Spirit we need to learn the language of LOVE. For this
unique language you do not need a big vocabulary or a dictionary. In fact, you
do not even need any words. All you need is to have love in your heart and look
straight into the eyes of your loved ones.
This is the language that unites the Holy Trinity in to one Godhead. This
is the language that can unite us in to one community now and forever. May
God bless you with love for the other whoever that other may be. Your brother
and sister or a stranger, your neighbor or your enemy, your supporter, or your
competitor. Just remember Love has no limitations or boundaries, love unites
everything in God, Love never fails.

Οι σκέψεις του π. Αντωνίου για το Ευαγγέλιο της Κυριακής
Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Σήμερα είναι η ημέρα της Πεντηκοστής. 50 ημέρες μετά τη μεγάλη
γιορτή του Πάσχα. Το κεντρικό μήνυμα για σήμερα είναι η κατάβαση του
Αγίου Πνεύματος σε όλους τους χριστιανούς. Μιλούσαν σε άλλες γλώσσες μετά
από ό, τι συνέβη στην Ιερουσαλήμ, αλλά τα δώρα του Πνεύματος είναι πολλά.
Εκείνη την εποχή χρειάζονταν γλώσσες για να φτάσουν σε όλα τα έθνη του
κόσμου. Σήμερα δεν συμβαίνει πια αυτό.
Σήμερα, πρέπει να δούμε άλλα δώρα που έρχονται με το Άγιο Πνεύμα.
Το δώρο της Αγάπης, το δώρο της υπομονής, το δώρο της φροντίδας και της
καλοσύνης, το δώρο της ταπεινότητας. Σήμερα, το πιο σημαντικό είναι ότι
χρειαζόμαστε το δώρο της ενότητας σε αυτόν τον ατομικό, απρόσωπο και
διαιρεμένο κόσμο. Σε έναν κόσμο όπου οι φίλοι μας είναι στο διαδίκτυο και όχι
γύρω από το τραπέζι ή που εργάζονται στην άλλη άκρη του κόσμου αντί να
εργάζονται ώμο με ώμο.
Στον πύργο της Βαβέλ διαχωρίστηκαν οι γλώσσες και η ανθρωπότητα
χωρίστηκε σε πολλά έθνη. Στην Πεντηκοστή, το Άγιο πνεύμα ήρθε να ενώσει
όλα τα έθνη. Σήμερα πρέπει να καταλάβουμε ένα πράγμα. Μιλώντας τη γλώσσα
κάποιου είναι μόνο η αρχή της κοινωνίας μαζί τους.
Η αληθινή κοινωνία είναι η κοινωνία της Αγάπης και για να βιώσουμε
την ενότητα του Αγίου Πνεύματος πρέπει να μάθουμε τη γλώσσα της
ΑΓΑΠΗΣ. Γι’ αυτή τη μοναδική γλώσσα δεν χρειαζόμαστε μεγάλο λεξιλόγιο ή
λεξικό. Στην πραγματικότητα δεν χρειαζόμαστε ούτε λέξεις. Το μόνο που
χρειαζόμαστε είναι να έχουμε αγάπη στην καρδιά μας και να κοιτάμε απευθείας
στα μάτια των αγαπημένων μας.
Αυτή είναι η γλώσσα που ενώνει την Αγία Τριάδα σε μια Θεότητα. Αυτή
είναι η γλώσσα που μπορεί να μας ενώσει σε μια κοινότητα τώρα και για πάντα.
Ο Θεός να σας ευλογεί με αγάπη για τον άλλον, όποιος και να είναι αυτός. Ο
αδελφός σας και η αδελφή σας ή ένας ξένος, ο γείτονάς σας ή ο εχθρός σας, ο
υποστηρικτής σας ή ο ανταγωνιστής σας. Απλά θυμηθείτε ότι η αγάπη δεν έχει
περιορισμούς ή όρια, η αγάπη ενώνει τα πάντα στον Θεό, η Αγάπη δεν
αποτυγχάνει ποτέ.

In Appreciation for Icon Donations
We celebrate all the saints whose icons have been dedicated by
our parishioners. On the Sunday following the Feast of the
Saint we offer Artoklasia and a trisagion service for the good
health of the living members and eternal memory of the deceased
members of the donor family. This Sunday we celebrate
the feast of St. Savvas of Kalymnos.
Γιορτάζουμε όλους τους αγίους των οποίων οι εικόνες έχουν
αφιερωθεί από τους ενορίτες μας. Την Κυριακή που ακολουθεί
την εορτή του Αγίου προσφέρουμε Αρτοκλασία και τρισάγιο
για την υγεία των ζώντων μελών και για την αιώνια μνήμη των εκλιπόντων
μελών της δότριας οικογένειας. Αυτήν την Κυριακή γιορτάζουμε τον Άγιο Σάββα
της Καλύμνου.
ARTOKLASIA, TRISAGION THIS WEEK
This Sunday we offer Artoklasia for the good health of the living members & a
Trisagion Service for the eternal memory of the deceased members of
Splagounias family.

Αυτή την Κυριακή προσφέρουμε Αρτοκλασία για την καλή υγεία των εν ζωή
μελών & Τρισάγιο για την αιωνία μνήμη των εκλιπόντων μελών της
οικογένειας Splagounias.
Coffee hour is hosted by the Splagounias family and will be
prepared by the Parish Council.
Ο καφές θα προσφερθεί απο την οικογένεια Splagounias και
θα προετοιμαστεί απο το Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο.
