CAN ENSURE THE POST
OFFICE NETWORK HAS
A VIABLE FUTURE
s I write this column, we

have just finished
Conference, which was
one of the best I have
attended. My first Conference was
back in 2010 and there were around
220 postmasters present. Conference
2024 was back to those kinds of
numbers, which was great to see.
Thanks has to go to colleagues who
attended for their approach and
constructive challenge to not only
myself but also Postal Affairs Minister
Kevin Hollinrake and Post Office Ltd
(PO) CEO Nick Read.
Conference was about debating the
big ideas that we as postmasters focus
on. One such idea is culture. If our
culture as a
network is not
right then the
changes and
improvements
that are required
to face the
challenges of
today and
tomorrow, will not
happen and that will
lead to the detriment of us
all.
That is why it was important to really
focus on the changes in culture that
are required, not only within PO but
also within the network.

To be clear, the
bedrock of who we,
the NFSP, are as an
organisation has not
changed since our formation
back in 1897. The aim back then was
the same as today “to improve the
conditions under which postmasters
labour and to undertake the
advancement of our interests by all
legitimate and honourable means”.
