4 | 01945 WHAT'S UP The Abbot Public Library Foundation’s Reopening Gala What: This gala will allow those in attendance to tour the recently renovated Abbot Public Library. The library’s bright meeting rooms, 21st-century maker space, airy gathering spaces, Carten Gallery, and thoughtfully reimagined garden will be on display. Individual tickets to attend start at $250, but sponsors who pay more can receive listings in The Marblehead Weekly News and social-media channels. Where: The gala will be held at the Abbot Public Library at 235 Pleasant St. When: The gala will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 14. For over 115 years, people have relied on Andersen. Jazz at the Arts: Alex Minasian Quartet What: Jazz at the Arts will welcome the Alex Minasian Quartet, featuring Minasian on piano, Bill Pierce on tenor sax, Marshall Woods on bass, and Eric DuPont on drums. Minasian has studied with some of the greatest pianists in the history of jazz, including Hank Jones, Don Friedman, Jean- Michel Pilc, and James Williams. He has also performed at many of the most famous jazz venues in the United States, including Birdland, the Blue Note, Cafe Carlyle, Yoshi’s, Bohemian Caverns, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato, Iridium, Jazz @ Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater. Where: The concert will take place at the Marblehead Arts Association at 8 Hooper St. When: The concert will be held on June 20. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Bags, Beer, and BBQ Tournament What: Teams of two will compete in a bags tournament. Tickets for competitors cost $85 for each player, and all players will receive three tickets for food and beer and a free towel. Tickets for spectators are $25, and they will receive two tickets for food and beer. The event will feature beer from the Bent Water Brewing Company. All proceeds from the event will support the Marblehead Museum. Registration for the event will end on June 17. Where: The tournament will take place at the Lee Mansion Gardens.
