This Action Plan has been created
by Dyffryn Ogwen residents who
came together in a Community
Assembly on the Climate between
May 2022 and February 2023.
The Assemblies were organised and
facilitated by climate action movement
GwyrddNi, in partnership with Partneriaeth
Ogwen, our local partner in Dyffryn
Ogwen. The work was funded by the
National Lottery’s Community Fund.
An education programme was held
in local schools and four assembly
sessions were held with members in
the community to learn, share and
discuss together before answering the
question: How can we in Dyffryn Ogwen
respond locally to Climate Change?
The answers can be read in this Action
Plan. There is now an open invitation for
anyone in the area who’s interested to join
us on the journey to realise these ideas.

Before you read the Actions section, the
Assembly Members would like to emphasise
the values that run through all these actions.
All actions should be: accessible and inclusive.
They should also encourage deeper relationships
between us as people, and with nature. And
last but not least, the Welsh language should
always be included in any and all actions.
The Assembly Members, GwyrddNi and Partneriaeth
Ogwen are eager to deliver these plans but would
love to have support from the wider community too.

HOMES IN

Providing information and advice for people
looking to improve energy efficiency in their
homes.
Exploring communal and individual options.
Research into ground source heat options.
Open house events to encourage good practice.

A self-sufficient energy generating Valley,
where we meet our own energy needs, including

hydro, micro hydro,
ground source and solar.
Make the case for
financial viability

Establish a creative writing group that offers
a safe space to share personal writing with an
emphasis on nature and the environment.

Online map to promote environmental projects
to local individuals, businesses, organisations
and tourists.
Include a page that shows how local people and
companies are taking environmental action.
Show contact information / opening times/
locations and activities.
Anyone can contribute (Simply put, it is a
platform to show off your actions).
Links to QR codes on local paths.
Posters to promote it around the area.
Provides people with

written into the
constitution.
Democracy and
co-operation.
Retrain workers with
green skills and
co-operative skills.
Establish Steering
Group including
existing co-ops.
Find a suitable method
of collaboration and

Work with Partneriaeth
Ogwen and Ynni Ogwen.
Choose a pilot project to
incubate and support.

CLIMATE
FESTIVAL
A day to bring local people and organisations
involved in climate action together with our
local community to raise awareness about the
climate emergency.
The first will take place on 1st May 2023 on
Bethesda High Steet.
Share information
on the climate
emergency.
Promote this Action

Promote existing
climate solutions in
Dyffryn Ogwen.
Plan the festival

MOSS MAPPING
KINETIC PARK
Local moss mapped out in Dyffryn Ogwen along
Afon Caseg. Species locations marked with grid
references.
There is a lot of focus on tree planting but moss
also absorbs carbon. This will be an opportunity
to learn more about moss in its natural habitat -
we have plentiful supply in Dyffryn Ogwen.
Park equipment which turns kinetic energy into
electricity and powers lights in the park.
Will help us to look
at and learn about
diversity in life and
nature.
Will encourage us to
care for our natural
environment.
A visual and fun way of
starting conversations
about energy.
Encourages a healthy
lifestyle.
Choose nine visually
lovely species of moss.
Design the moss map.
Connect with local
groups already
interested in play areas.
Connect with Dyffryn
Ogwen Maker Space to
see if they can help with
design.
GREEN
TRANSPORT
Encourage less personal car use by making the
‘green’ choice the easiest option.
Reducing carbon
emissions.
Improving our
connection with
nature.
Public transport and
active travel will be
easy and convenient
and therefore will
encourage more users.
Cycling and walking
will become more
accessible for all.
Improve wellbeing.
Link up with Dyffryn
Gwyrdd.

people want to go and
ensure communities are

at how existing provision
can be improved in
