ssie Mae Sanders was born on August 29, 1958, to the late Joe Louis
Sanders and the late Lucy Grant Smith in Florence, South Carolina.
She slipped into eternity on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Hospice
House.
Essie received her education in the public schools of Florence, graduating from
Wilson High School in the Class of 1977. She cherished her classmates and
participated in their events until her health failed.
Essie accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and joined Mt. Pisgah
Baptist Church on Old Marion Highway. She was a faithful member and
enjoyed listening to the choirs sing and contributing in any way she could to the
church. Her sweet personality shone through to all who knew her. She was a
dedicated member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Ministry and served well until
her health declined.
She was a past member of Household of Ruth Lodge #558 and District
Household of Ruth #22.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories a lovely son Desmond Sanders of
Florence, SC; her caregiver/cousin Joan Sanders Smith and a devoted friend
Carolyn Jackson all of Florence, SC; and a host of other family and friends.
Essie loved attending the Woman’s Pee Dee District Department Events and
the Woman’s E&M Conventions. She also served as one of the Youth Advisors
for the Pee Dee Youth Department for several years.
Essie Mae Sanders will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were
blessed to know her.

Life Is But A Stopping Place
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way.
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay…
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.
And when the journey finally ends
We’ll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.
