SIGNIFICANT
STEPS
Born in 1927 as a speed race from the intuition of
Giovanni Canestrini, Franco Mazzotti, Renzo Castagneto
and Aymo Maggi, the 1000 Miglia is now the regularity
race for historic cars that, amid the warmth of the public
and the enthusiasm of the participants, passes through
villages and towns of our beautiful Italy.
Day one: Brescia, Bergamo, Novara and Vercelli to Turin.
Day two: Langhe, Acqui Terme and Genoa to Viareggio.
Day three: Lucca, Livorno, Castiglione della Pescaia,
Grosseto, Lake Bolsena to Rome.
Day four: Orvieto, Solomeo, Siena, Prato, the Futa and
Raticosa passes to Bologna.
Day Five: Ferrara, Mantua, Lake Garda with Valtenesi
and Salò to Brescia.
Without mentioning the well-known ones, our personal
1000 Mile made stops in Acqui Terme, Castiglione della
Pescaia and Solomeo, out of curiosity to explore new
destinations.
Acqui Terme is a small town in the province of Alessandria
located in the middle-lower valley of the Bormida River.
The Romans gave the town the Latin name of “Aquae
Statiellae,” which they founded around the thermal
springs dominated by the impressive remains of the
aqueduct; a municipality set like a rare jewel among
vineyards and landscapes recognized as a UNESCO
World Heritage Site for their breathtaking beauty in the
Alto Monferrato area, which is rich in environmental,
landscape, artistic and eno-gastronomic suggestions.
The town offers its visitors an enviable combination
of art, culture, history, gastronomic excellence, charm
and hospitality that make it a unique and captivating
destination.
Castiglione della Pescaia is in the province of Grosseto,
the pearl of its Maremma. Its territory enjoys the presence
of very varied landscapes: from the golden beaches of the
renowned Punta Ala to the wet environment of Daccia
Botrona; from the Pineta del Tombolo to the forestcovered
hills dominated by an ancient medieval village
with fortified walls and a castle overlooking the sea.
Besides being a base for a pleasant seaside stay, it can be
an ideal starting point for visiting interesting Etruscan
and Roman archaeological sites.
Solomeo is a hamlet of Corciano municipality, in the
province of Perugia. With less than 500 inhabitants,
it mainly rises on the top of a hill. In the flat area, it is
grazed by the waters of the Caina stream. It is known
as “the village of cashmere and harmony”. The village
encloses places that represent special stages of a
path which crosses history, culture, art, nature and
landscapes. From the Castle to the Cucinelli Theater;
from the Church of St. Bartholomew to the Forum of the
Arts; from the Amphitheater to the Philosopher’s Garden
to the Aurelian Neo-Humanistic Academy: each place
expresses its specific function and uniqueness.
