FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK
The return of the Mudgee
Classic brought a wave of
excitement to the region
last month. With a turnout
of over 2,000 registered
participants, the two-day
event showcased the
beauty of the Mid-Western
Region on the designated
cycling routes. Despite
challenging wet weather
conditions, the event ran
smoothly and will return in
2025. The Mudgee Classic
contributes approximately
$2 million into the local
economy.
I am pleased to announce
the 2024/2025 Operational
Plan and Delivery Program
has been adopted and
is available to view on
Council’s website. The
Plan sets out projects to
be carried out in the next
financial year including
roads, bridges, walking
tracks and sewerage
networks.
The draft Employment
Lands Strategy (Industrial)
is currently on public
exhibition and can be
viewed on the Council
website or at Council’s
Administration Buildings.
The strategy aims to take
proactive steps towards
the future development
of the region’s industrial
sector over the next 20-30
years.
I encourage you to review
this strategy and submit
feedback on Council’s
MUDGEE SALEYARDS HOSTS FIRST ONLINE AUCTION
Mudgee Saleyards hosted its first combined online
and in-person auction at the Angus breeders sale on
Friday, 3 May.
The sale integrated a traditional in-person auction
with an online bidding platform, broadening the
market for sellers and offering convenience to buyers.
With online bidding, participants were able to engage
in the sale from any location with internet access,
reducing travel costs and time commitments.
This approach optimises sales outcomes by increasing
competition and reaching a wider audience while
accommodating buyers who prefer attending
auctions in person.
On the day over 100 buyers attended the sale at the
The Fall Guy (M), Robot Dreams (PG) and
Freud’s Last Session (M) will hit the big
screen this month on 7 - 9 June. Tickets are
available on Council’s website or at the door
(unless sold out prior) $15 for adults and
$10 for children and concession. Entry is free
for children under 5 years. Be sure to buy
your tickets early to avoid missing out.
New
NEW BORDER SIGNAGE ACROSS THE
REGION
Council has designed new signage for the Local
Government Area borders throughout the
8,700 square kilometre LGA.
The updated signage celebrates the rich
viticulture heritage of the region, tracing back
to the 1850s when grape cultivation first took
hold in the region.
The circular motifs on the new signage hold
symbolic significance, representing agriculture,
wheat, sun, the native Acacia and community
cohesion within our towns.
The new signage has replaced the ageing signs
that were installed by Council in 2011.
AVOID FIRE RISKS THIS WINTER
Residents are reminded to never dispose of hot
ashes in any bins, whether they are kerbside bins
or at waste stations. Doing so poses a significant
risk of fire to bins, waste trucks and facilities.
Before taking ashes to your local facility or placing
them in your general waste wheelie bin, ashes
must be completely cold all the way through. To
ensure this, soak the ashes and leave them out to
dry for a few days. Although the surface of an ash
container may feel cold, the centre often retains
enough warmth to potentially reignite and cause a
fire when disposed of.
When visiting your local waste facility, always
follow the directions provided by on-site staff
for the safe disposal of ash. By taking these
precautions, you can help prevent incidents and
keep our community safe from the dangers of fire
caused by improper ash disposal.
DRIVING IN WINTER
Driving conditions can change with the
colder weather. Remember to take extra
care with rain, ice, fog and snow. Stay safe
with these tips for travelling in slippery
conditions: reduce your speed, turn low
beam headlights on (even during the day),
allow extra space between you and the
vehicle in front of you, follow warning signs,
accelerate smoothly and break gently.
